i try to give it 5+ years between 'runs' of games because after all that time has passed, they have a chance to surprise me again. It worked with Wind Waker which I enjoyed much more the second time round.

Bass is better for beginners since he has a double jump and dash, making the platforming easier. And the fact that you don't have to jump to hit enemies at different heights.

But yeah, once you get some skill, Bass is pretty useless. I still have fun with him, though.

I'm going to have to separate this one into three categories, OP. Please pardon me.

Console: Tecmo Super Bowl: I came into the NES game late, but I love this game (hacks/mods/roster updates don't hurt, either).

PC: Doom: 'nuff said.

Handheld: Golden Sun GBA (aka "I'm sexy, mobile, and you can't stop me".

Both are fairly easy games, but I feel skilled enough in both to be able to beat them easily in one sitting and without the danger of getting bored since they're also fun as hell no matter how many times I replay them.

The hell? The sustained multidirectional fire is great against regular enemies and minibosses. And it's only terrible aganist bosses until you get the double damage upgrade. Once you do that it's the best overall weapon in the game.

Unless they nerfed it for the GBA version.

On my first playthrough I ended up switching back to Mega Man, it seems like the charged buster shot is put ore to use than anything Bass can do. In no particular order:
Dark Wizard, Sega CD.
Somer Assault, Turbo Grafx/PC Engine.
Guardian Legend, NES.
Ogre Battle, SNES.

And, of course, Umihara Kawase in all her glorious forms, SNES, Playstation, DS and the upcoming 3DS release.

All throughout my life, I play each of those through at least once every few months. Don't know why. Used to play the piss out of Lunar and Lunar II (Sega CD) and I liked using Alpha One in Snatcher (so in depth) on Sega CD a bunch, too.

Unrelated to the thread, but as far as Ogre Battle goes, Quest released two others of my top 10 favourite all time games, Conquest of the Crystal Palace (NES) and Magical Chase (Turbo Grafx/PC Engine). With almost a third of my top ten favourite games being made by the same company, I'm saddened to learn of their subsequent bankruptcy, hostile takeover by Squeenix and disolution.

Also, though I had a Neo Geo growing up, not being much for fighters, my system was relegated mostly to Metal Slug and its many sequels.

Non retro, but true: Journey. Been playing it over and over again to the point where I would get the white cape and then clear it on the next run.
If I had to choose a retro-only game, it'd be Donkey Kong Country. The game save won't stay so I have been playing it over and over from scratch to the end without turning it off.

No hate here. I love doing different types of challenges in Red/Blue. Especially no-catch. Power leveling a Charmander into a Charizard before Misty is the best feeling ever.

You know what I noticed about this pic?
It's correct right down to the weapons in each hand for both characters.
Cross was primary (left side)
Same for water gun
Potion was secondary (right side)

Yes sir.
I like every now and again playing with no evolutions or a team I've never used. Endless ways to spice it up.
