Saturn/PSX/N64 aren't retro

Fucking thank you. People don't seem to understand that retro refers to one specific era of something's existence and isn't fluid nor apply to more things as time goes on. In this case it's before the 3D revolution, which brought in its own era that we are still partly in.

I'm guessing the male nudity and bizarre intro are 90% of the reason people hate this game.

Some of their non-Japanese versions have bad alterations, be it arcade or console games.
They were a top tier company anyway, I prefer enjoying their vast library of good games than trying to find crap myself, particularly considering what they became in the 21th century.
>>4547216
I don't consider these "vintage" either, for me it's up to 4th gen and maybe later arcade games. But they are legal on /vr/ so Hybrid Heaven counts.

I can live with those aspects. It's the shitty controls, lack of any kind of exciting gameplay and woeful framerate which really kill it for me.

>>4547245

Yeah I don't think it's a good game, either, but still I think the public's reaction to the game has more to do with its first two minutes than any of the actual gameplay.

This applies to almost every 3D 5th gen console game (and a lot of later ones but not retro), though. Not just polygons, 3D gameplay.
>>4547257
Gradius III Arcade is not bad, it has a few rough spots, some bad hitboxes and is a bit derivative after the amazing II but it's far from bad. If you're talking about the SNES game, that game is very cool other than suffering from too much slowdown. If the slowdown wasn't there / was patched it probably would be considered a classic.

I agree. F-Zero X and Super Mario 64 are the only ones that felt tactile and good to play on the same level that 2D games had already achieved.

Yep, X and GX are one of the exceptions to me. Not so much Mario 64 but that's certainly better than most.

Gameplay is the best thing about HH though, controls are bad during platforming parts (which are scarce anyway), but they are responsive on battle, anyway it's half turn based and menu-driven, but running around toggling between careful steps and running with the Z button always felt natural, the menues are also pretty fast.
No complains about the gameplay on battles.
I think the game can be exciting but I guess some people might not appreciate the combat style, it's a bit of an acquired taste but I think anyone who likes 3D fighting games, wrestling games and turn based RPGs will be satisfied with this game for its uniqueness in blending these 3 genres.
The framerate was fine to me except on hi-res mode with the expansion pak, it dropped a lot there, but then again since the game is kind of slow paced and menu-driven half the time, the low fps on hi-res mode isn't as bad as in, say, a racing game.

You might be able to do that with overclocking in emulators.
