Comatose would run like ass on many PCs due to the way it is build.

It was designed to push Boom format to its limits - it is a wide open map with as many linedefs, sectors etc. visible, and as little visual blockers as possible. There's even a dedicated zone made specifically to dump some extra detailing linedefs for explicit purpose of hitting the linedef limit beyondwhich PRBoom crashes.

It will run mostly fine only on PRBoom+/GLBoom+.
My rig which is an oldass 2.4Ghz Core Duo with Geforce 8600 (12 year old gpu) runs Comatose at ~40-50 fps, while most other maps give me 700-1400fps.

Can you make an intro music that has dark and moody fantasy feel to it like Heretic map music (not the menu theme - it's not that good in it)?

The only relevant features MBF had are friendly monsters, ability to change sky and a few new action parameters that came with friendly units.

All of which is present in the ZDoom - you can summon any monster as an ally.

Just like in MBF, doing something more with the friendly system reequires editing monsters - in MBF it was done through DEHACKED methods, that are compatible with ZDoom and you can still do that, but it is much easier to achieve same result with decorate.

It also had beta BFG, which is again, easy to recreate through decorate.

The rest were pretty much raisd vanilla limits and thats it.

Never have I felt so disattached to my favorite game such a Doom as I have when playing this mod.
Doom to me was like the perfect end all-all around cleanser for me.
I would play horrible wads that changed the looks, the sound, the levels, and it wouldn't matter cause Doom was Doom and I was happy to mess around with a game that I believed could not be radically smeared by any other means.

This mod...
It's horrible. It's all the cringiest things cobbled together, hiding behind a game I grew up with so much that even an action packed, bloody and violent based situation like Doom was completely destroyed and made uncomfortable for me.
I hate it. And Doom is slightly less appealing to me than ever before.

I meant dualing 2 diffeent guns at the same time. In Guncaster you can dual only the same gun. Sualing different guns actually can be fun and open new possibilities since a different gun can act kinda like an altfire so you can mixup primary/secondary to your liking. Especially if weapons have different elements and special effects like in Borderlands.

I think the A_Overlay function of GZD can be used to create the same sort of Guns-made-by-combining-parts as in Borderlands, but it would require tremendous ammmount of layer fuckery. Probably would need to be animated as a model first and then ripped to sprites later for consistency, but it IS theoretically possible to recreate Borderlands system now.

Sort of. Filters are an OpenGL-only rendering technique that takes the pixels and tries to "smooth" them out, which most of the time ends up looking awful.

I see. I usually prefer Software but there was some problem a couple versions ago with it rendering the skybox, so I had to switch to OpenGL.

Maybe there's something in the options to disable filters, I like the pixellated look of these old games. I don't think my screenshot or your examples necessarily look bad though.

It's really a matter of preference. I'll probably give you shit for filters for like one or two posts, but ultimately if you like how they look then go for it. That's the beauty of having options for them in the first place.
To disable you go to Options > Display Options > OpenGL Renderer > Texture Options > Texture Filter Mode.

Me personally, I hate it because it took something that focused on gameplay and replaced it with detail and tedium. Doom's selling point in graphics was not how astonishingly realistic (at least for sci-fi standards) the rooms and maps were, it's selling point was that they were pseudo-3D rooms with lots of secrets and shit to explore. Meanwhile, KDIZD feels more like a more retarded Quake 2 with somehow even more tech-demoey sections.

Then you have stupid shit like the super shotgun, grenade launcher, and so on that don't fit in a E1 replacement (let alone Doom 1) since you never really needed them in the original game. They tried to combine aspects of Quake 2 and 4, Doom 2, and Doom 3 with Doom 1 and given that these are all fundamentally different games from Doom 1 -- yes, even Doom 2 -- it comes off as this fucking weird kind of blob of game design to me.

If you haven't played it for yourself, give it a go. It was pretty amazing at the time to even see that level of detail, it blew my mind as a 15 year old, but looking back on it now I don't find it terribly impressive. There's better projects out there, like DoomOne, despite a few questionable inclusions of custom levels.

Thanks a lot, I'm working on a light gradients ATM but this looks pretty bad I think. I think where I'm going wrong cutting off the strong light too short - like, it shouldn't fade away by distance, but instead by angle away from the light source. So ideally I'd have beams that didn't reduce their luminosity as they hit the far wall, but instead became fainter as the angle was widened. Going to try it.

Doom modding is super-easy. For replacing the potion, what'd you'd have to do is:
1. Get Slade 3
2. Open up YOUR wad
3. Add the pizza sprites
4. Rename them as "BON1"-sprites. However, there are about 4 frames of animation for potions, so you'd rename them "BON1A0", "BON1B0", "BON1C0" and "BON1D0". The A,B,C,D... stand for the frame of animation, and the last number is rotation. 0 means it is always facing to player.
5. Convert them to Doom graphic format.
6. The new frames override the base DOOM ones when your wad is loaded.

Literally all of the weapon shit in v18 is vased on Mike, Eriance, WildWeasel and DoomNukem code/sprites with supplementary assets from allover the place with no credits given, even though people were demanding it for quite some time. He was confronted about it, gave a mention to few (very few) people, then began frankenspriting shit together to get away from direct copypaste of assets, and abandoned crediting, thinking that using a sprite for frankenspriting is technically not "use" and does not require creidt - in fact, you can still see remnants of some of DoomNukem's work even in V21 (like shotgun), but covered under a thick layer of paint and bs.
Recently, he "generously" gave creidt on a screen that does not ever show up due to a convenient bug, and even then all the people that actively denied him pemission to use their work are listed there as "contributors", implying that they gave him explicit permission to use their assets (which they didn't)

There were a couple of spots with awkward textures, and I'm not too big a fan of that door in the beginning with no indication of it being a key door. That doesn't really matter all that much, though.
Also, I didn't really have enough ammo for the Arch-Vile at the end, but also didn't have a reason to fight it. There are so few enemies in the main room that it didn't do anything.

while I'm waiting for sprites, I've been polishing the fuck out of Blaz's moveset, I've recently made his melee attacks always flinch lesser monsters, letting you wail on them without getting hit, bigger monsters still shrug off sword blows occasionally. I've also sped up his punch combo and added what was my attempt at animating a double lariat. It's more of a big spinning backfist but pretend his other arm is sticking out off screen.

I wasn't happy with how the sapphire beam bombs worked when they hit enemies, seeing as they'd just bounce off and go flying away, making it less effective as a direct use weapon or in big open areas.

So I made them lose a lot of momentum when they hit a monster, spew out a small spray of sapphire bullets that arc down, and then after the bomb hits the floor, it immediately rebounds back at the monster if it's still alive at top speed, resulting in a loop of it just butting against tougher monsters or bowling through crowds.

This is fucking hilarious and I'm keeping it.

So I have an idea for a Hexen-style campaign, but more linear and with simple, more logical puzzles.

The idea for the first level is that player spawns in a settlement, either a besieged city or a village, with a castle at the edge of a map that is surrounded by moat and a bridge closed.
There's a secret passage through the church/graveyard but the passage is barricaded. Player's 1st weapon is melee with some basic combos, but it takes down local Ettins easily. There's an execution square with hangmen and an executioner mini-boss player has to fight and take its axe as a way to crush the barricades.

Thing is, I have trouble deciding on whether I want this all go down in the village or in a city block. City block would be more confined with less areas but also more streamlined and more detailed.
Village would be more open, and I'd be able to add a few more areas maybe.

I actually never played Tyrian 2000, not yet at least.
I might lessen the damage it does a little, but the bomb actually does increased damage against lesser monsters, against stronger monsters it's not AS effective.

I'm also trying out a different altfire system, seeing as I'm not happy with the grenade shot for the shotgun or the missile mode for the repeater, so instead you'll lower your gun and draw your sword for two quick swipes before sheathing it. The rocket launcher and plasma gun will keep the altfires I've made for them seeing as those are pretty great.

Why not use screen shake for each successful hit or make your arms flash white when connecting a hit giving small invincibility frames? Maybe when doing lariat against stronger enemies both you and the enemy ministun each other like when blocking a tatsumakisempukyaaku (especially as Ken in SF2)

With the fast as shit spin, I've decided to keep things quick and simplistic, the spin is actually a radiusgive that deals damage followed up with a quick blast effect. This is mainly just a clutch move you throw out really fast.

Could always make the player temporarily invulnerable when spinning but I feel that might be too OP seeing as it's a free move

I dunno about lack of advanced engine features, but certainly the modern trend of over realism and over detailing is irritating. Sticking to levels of detail that wouldn't cause a visplane overflow from every conceivable angle of viewing might not be as "pretty", but honestly looks better in the engine in my opinion. Plus, then the focus is on something that plays well, but something that looks good with gameplay being an afterthought.
