Opinions on The King of Dragons?

>> No.4537503

I 20cc'ed it today and that was bloody long desu, when you think it's over it's actually not

>20cc'ed
That's the way the developers intended.

No, that was the way arcade operators/owners intended lol

Played through this once on one of those PS2 Capcom collections with my uncle, and it took forever to finish.

Developers intended both things, that there would be virgins stupid enough to single credit clear and chads who wasted a million credits making a healthy revenue for the operators then never came back because Arcade games are shit anyway.

that's how games feel when you creditfeed

most people that creditfed were just retarded little kids

It's a fun game but it's hard to give it any time when I could just play Tower of Doom now instead. Before I could emulate ToD though I spent years playing the SNES port of King of Dragons and still love the hell out of it.

pretty much this, it gets the job done

Developers had to satisfy two demands: arcade owners and the players. For the first, games needed to be brief and hard. For the latter, games needed to still feel fair and fun. This combination is why arcade games are on average by far the best games out there: there's no place for shovelware (shitty games are exposed by a single coin, watching others play it, the demo displays and word of mouth) nor storyfag "games". The lack of forgiveness also made it a top priority to tightly polish the games: a badly buggy, programmed or designed arcade would fail miserably. Players don't give a shit when taking unavoidable damage in games with no consequences (over 2000 hit points, over abundant save points, etc.) but will surely feel angry if they are forced out of the game due to this. Also, it's the only environment ever that worked by not excessively pandering to casuals: games are not assumed to be beatable by low skilled individuals, making them more fun to those willing to become more skilled. In general, a very competitive environment: bad games not giving enough profit took space so they had to be replaced, and thus you had to make good shit to even have a chance.
The only problem the arcade environment had was the preservation, but now thanks to emulation and the like we're getting there.

Also forgot to add the arcade environment was immune to the progress system cancer which plagues gaming now

Not him, but in my pic you can see a Chad, and these games were score based where you couldn't continue.

Me and my nephew ran through it a few times with infinite lives. He loved the game, even though there are a lot newer games around.

I think I've started to convert him into a /vr/ player.

I love it. Great music, cool monsters and designs, nice backgrounds etc. Could never 1cc it though, got it down to about 2 or 3.

Is it possible to play this game in 3-player mode online? Where?

>> No.4539076

>>4537562
But with emulation, there really is "no consequence". If you're not pumping in quarters, you're basically playing a game with unlimited lives and free continues. Outside of the arcade, a lot of these games get boring real quick.

>> No.4539093

>>4539076
some games don't let you continue, they just let you try again when you put in another quarter.

>> No.4539176

It's definitely possible to play MAME online, but it's been so long that I've forgot everything needed for it (and I'm sure there's probably better programs than the ones I used a decade ago anyway).

Fightcade, thought you'll have to bring your own friends since I doubt this game has active players.

That is also why Street Fighter II was the king of the arcades.

You cannot insert more coins to beat Balrog, if you have no skill.

There are plenty of checkpoint based arcade games other than fighting games, they just weren't as prevalent. Check out Truxton 2 or Parodius Da.

I like to speed through it with as little damage as I can, but it's better when done with others, since you can play off each other's strengths, especially Cleric's.
