It drops to less than 30 if you look too much up or down of course, because GZDoom doesn't have vertical culling so looking around 70º degree up or down makes the engine render the entire area instead of only where you are looking at.

Huh. So seems DRLA mapset is winning. I'll give a look back at this in a while after some stuff on other games is done and then I'll see who the winner is. Tossing it to the OP for convenience's sake.
Some design thoughts/documents:
I figure it best to be done in sets of 10 or so
ae after every 10th level the enemy roster is shoved up to the next tier whilst slowly sprinkling in new enemies over time; I hope to use a mix of Ancient Aliens + Community Chest 4 Textures.
so first 10 maps = vanilla, slowly integrating over into Nightmare, then the next 10 are Technophobia, ending off with the last 10 being Armageddon. Each episode will generally end with a Death Exit plus a switch in player class. You can see why I wanted to be able to use only vanilla class. The game will also generally introduce mechanics gradually over time; starting with mod-kits and the like.

So, there will likely be 40+ Maps total for the Retro Video Game. For ease of mapping and allow full creative freedom, it's definitely going to be a GZDoom map-set (so I don't have to worry about incompatibilities until afterward) and some basic non-intrusive stuff like basic tutorial bits and slight storyline if the player cares to read it. both in text and map design (I intend to develop map features around every time I introduce new stuff)

I meant being too fast and crashing the bike into an enemy/wall is the point of the attack. It'll be active for like 2-4 sec and give you limited steering option to correct your path.

The collision detection would be limited to it crashing immediately since it's an attack.

In that capacity, I think crashing+damage+backward transformation can be achieved through player velocity monitoring instead of actual collision detection - as soon as it gets slower than half of the max speed, the crash is triggered and he gets booted off to normal mode, since it's not an actual race where speed alteration is required, but a straightforward ram attack with limited control.

The idea actually from Platinum's transformer game where Optimus transforms into the truck as a part of ramming attack, then immediately transform back after he hits something.

Research real life examples. Those hands could be just leather gloves, but if you want it armored, you can leave it plated, but to do realize that the plating doesn't go fully around the fingers. Also, test around with the tint of the green. I know the original doomguy was pretty emerald, but you are doing a a character with a lot more of covered bits, this might require you to revisit design choices.

MH has shitloads of medieval and fantasy armor you could find a base for your sprites, this website even has some rotating 3D previews of them. Some of if it's going to be goofy or too outlandish, but you might find something.


Though it's not too fitting for GMOTA at all, the site also has SFX from all the individual weapons in the game. It might be useful for resource purposes for mods.

I think the theme of "Low Hightech" would suit such a character - i.e. medieval weapons with hightech streak to them, but no pistols/firearms at all - a visibly high-tech sword, a plasma shield, mechanised hammer with jet propulsion.

It uses a magazine system. If you reload, you dump the magazine. You need the fullscreen hud to see your spare mags.

It appears that "Quality" rendering option in GZDoom is completely inoperational as of now.
Before it was used for higher precision rendering and would eliminate "white dot" artifacts on walls that were a result of lower precision algorithms.

Well, after spending the last few weeks nearly dead with the flu and working like a damned madman despite it, here's a small Babel update
>1/22/2018: Fixed shotgun model pellets. Sync/Chain now checks line of fire earlier to avoid animation janking. Sync/chain also now sends target info so receivers target the target of the sender instead of their own target (sync/chain will now work with infighting). Made most gun-based enemies use Doom's RNG instead of frandom, making them slightly more accurate and making their spread more like vanilla Doom. Added titlemap music. Removed some debug messages for the casing/gore cleanup queue, and optimized it a bit.
Still polishing things more, but IRL stuff is eating my time real bad. The software industry can be a real meatgrinder sometimes.

It has many more problems like:
breaking maps, breaking monster teleports (teleports them into walls sometimes), cause monster infights even before player gets to the monsters leading to encounters getting "defused" before player has the chance to participate etc.
Monsters also appear to have different hitbox radius which leads to all sort of shit -
also to bugged teleport and some monsters getting out of dedicated closets if the closets are tight and designed with vanilla in mind, that is even on "purist" mode.
Persoanlly encountered all of above and more when playing PL2 with latest BD build, evn when Mark claims it all fixed - it is not, and he's fullof shit.
So yeah. It actively breaks parts of any even remotely non-vanilla map (or maps not built specifically around it, which becomes more popular nowadays among newvomer mappers).
Not to mention all the extraneous visual clutter that blocks your vision.

this was a bit more complicated than expected
turns out I have to be a bit more careful in both choosing where to home to and how to home to it. A_SeekerMissile wasn't giving me the movement I wanted - it has a tendency to stop the missiles in midair for some unknown reason, as well as doing the whole "orbiting its target" thing, and you can't tell it to stop homing once the missile passes its target.

basically, the target of these homing shots is determined the moment they start speeding up, and it is either the last enemy you targeted in the last two seconds (if they still exist and aren't dead), or wherever your crosshair is (had to use a FastProjectile accelerated to ludicrous speed for this, thanks to bullet puffs and sky ceilings acting weird together).

the shots lazily hover around for a bit (bouncing off everything), start speeding towards their target until they pass it, then detonate shortly after - this keeps the shots from flying into the distance and doing weird loops once its target is dead. if the target stops existing for whatever reason, they home into its last known position, or just zoom straight forward forever if there is no last known position.

might narrow the 2 second timer down to 1.5 seconds or 1 second, not sure yet

the primary fire's gonna be more traditional, don't worry
least it isn't the old alt-fire which was literally just an automatic rocket launcher

not quite sure what I want to make this fire mode focus on - I don't want the BFG to completely overshadow the lancer, so I'll probably jack up the ammo usage, slow it down, and add more projectiles per shot

like the old alt-fire right now, so not very great. it'll probably need a new firing sound, and it'll definitely need a sound for when the projectiles start speeding up. the impact sound just needs to travel further.

I thought you were talking about high resolution high quality video presentation or editing. Even though VP9 webms support higher profiles, compatibility problems arise1. It should be easy to test by adding pix_fmt switch to ffmpeg command generated by GUI tool.
