Fav game? Nes DD2, ARCADE DD1, Return of DD or super double dragon.

Those are probably 3 of the best 4 along with the GBA game. If I had to rank them (out of the ones you listed) it'd probably be like this:
1. 2 NES
2. Arcade
3. Return
4. Super

Advance would be either 3rd or 4th overall in the series though.

Eh, I found the FC/NES game to be much better balanced. All the PCE version has going for it are the anime cutscenes.

Love DD2 on NES. My co-op buddy and I used to play this game all the time, to the point that we'd rock through the entire game doing only the knee attack on everything as they spawn, throwing bosses back&forth between each other with the knee attack, without every getting hit.... good times

Not a single DD game comes even close, although the GBA one is great.
DD4 was disappointing.

GBA is the best. I'd love to try the ZEEBO port, but is kinda impossible

Yeah, they made a big deal Yoshihisq Kishimoto's involvement in DD4 and the fact that the game was deliberately patterned after DD2NES, when ironically Kishimoto had little to do with that version. I don't why he didn't based on the first two arcade games he actually worked on.

you know I've never played a Double Dragon game and liked it. I've tried on NES and either MS or MD(can't remember) and they all felt just too clunky. Is there a consensus on the definite best one in the series? I'd like to try and change my mind.

The second NES game and the BBQ version are generally regarded as the best ones.

Arcade without a doubt. It was the first arcade game I was properly addicted to, I pumped an embarrassing amount of my pocket money into this game. Whenever I play it, I can almost smell that sickly sweet aroma of my local arcade den.

The arcade original obviously, but the Master System port was the one I played the most. Co-op with the bros for days.

Its probably still my favourite console port for nostalgia reasons. But the GBA version was a pleasant surprise, it's really great.

Fucking autocorrect. I meant to write GBA.
