It's been a while since there was a good Ecco thread, and at least one guy out there is playing it now so fine time for another.

General discussion of all things Ecco, or any questions from anyone go for it!

Okay. And is any of that a reason why Ed shouldn't be the guy to make another Ecco? He's political, but that's part if the series. It should at least be made by someone with an interest in the environment.

>> No.4473774

He already fucked up his Big Blue kickstarter about muh environment. Boomers are out of touch hypocrites that use technology that harms the environment. Original creators are sometimes the worst people to reboot an old dormant series because they lose sight of what made it great or they just want to make money. Look at Sonic Mania and how the fans created something far superior than Sonic Team ever could and with a smaller budget. Ecco on 3DS was great and that was ported by M2.

I do take your point, and someone creative and inspired could make something great with Ecco. But my fear is without him at the helm what we would actually get is like what has happened now to Star Wars. I'd rather have no new Ecco than something else with the nane Ecco in big words.

M2's port was perfect but it was a port.

>happened now to Star Wars
money making machine. Lucas already fucked up the franchise with the prequels. The original trilogy had different directors keeping Lucas bullshit in check. Good products are the sum of all the people that worked on them. ED borrowed most of his ideas from other sources anyways.

>> No.4474307

>>4473841
I have actually grown to appreciate the prequels over the years. PM pissed me off so much when I first saw it, but the evil Jar Jar reveal a couple of years ago finally made it make sense and I felt a little foolish not noticing it earlier. They're certainly flawed, but so were the originals. And although yes he had a lot of help with the writing (moreso in the originals which is why they're better), it's essentially his vision of the fall and redemption story, and clumsy as it is that's what I like about it.

The new Star Wars aren't bad exactly, but they're not really Star Wars themed action movies. Like the cartoons. I fear a new Ecco would be the same. Look like Ecco but not have the same essence. So if it's someone new, I'd rather have them do something new than try to remake something. We have too much of that already

>> No.4474387

>>4474307
I guess ED would know Ecco the best but still he is not the only person who worked on the genesis games. A dev team needs many competent individuals and organization to make a great game. Modern gaming is flooded with remakes because they are a quick easy cash grab. Ed said "Ecco 3 was going to be about the Atlantans war with the Vortex. At the end of Tides of Time, Ecco goes back to help." Some forced anti-war message im sure.

>Stardew Valley
>Starbound
>Trove
>CubeWorld
>StarForge
>Medieval Engineers
>Space Engineers
>Rust
>No Man's Sky
>FortNight
>Fallout 4

All of these games has something pretty major in common, Anon. And this is just the Minecraft craze. How about we cast that critical eye on the competitive FPS genre?

TF2?
>Overwatch
>Battleborn
>Quake Champions
>StarWars BF2
>Paladins
>Gigantic
>Dirty Bomb
>Block n' Load
>LawBreakers

Oh but hey, these are all totally unique to one another, right? Let's continue on another subject. How about Open-World games? I mean, there hasn't been a huge push to shoe-horn that tag into LITERALLY EVERYTHING, has there?
Certainly not. I mean, Skyrim is still totally unique.
>Dragon's Dogma
>Arcania Gothic 4
>Risen 3
>Witcher 3
>Middle Earth: Shadow of Mordor
>FarCry 4
>FarCry: Primal
>Dragon Age: Inquisiton
>Horizon Zero Dawn
>Breath of the Wild

Just some examples. I'm sure all of these games are completely memorable on their own and don't get muddled with any "Samey" feelings whatsoever. They're all their own thing. They're not following trends in the slightest.

Y'know, I'm not saying that this didn't happen in the 80's or 90's, but what I am saying is that most of those titles that were pretty much doing the same thing over and over didn't get praised as much and quietly went back to the "literally who" territory they belonged in, because lets face it, outside of Doom, the only games ever really mentioned are Marathon, Blood, Redneck Rampage, and maybe a couple of others, but everyone still knew which shooter was king.
Platformers?
>Sonic
>Mario
>Bubsy
>Earthworm Jim
Each had their own distinctions that made them plenty different from the others, and the rest of the platformers people typically played never got the same amount of attention. The Animaniacs platformer on Genesis? Sure it was fun, but it was nowhere near as popular.

Just food for thought.
