It's not even close to a bad nes game. If anything it's one of the better nes titles. But you've probably never even played it.

>> No.4471774

I never had it as a kid (only played double dragon and battletoads), I played the original NES battletoads recently and it's a good game, I was surprised. Connecting hits feels good, music is good, graphics are kind of impressive for a NES game, there's some enemies that have a very fluid animation seems like some CGI shit, then some of the backgrounds look more like 16-bit stuff than anything else.
Difficulty is insane but it's doable.

What do you mean "Finally?" I've been saying its bad for 25 years.

>> No.4471846

It's deffinatly not a bad game. It's just poorly balanced making it VERY difficult.

>Can we finally admit I was bad at this game
I've been saying you're bad at this game for a dozen years. Nearly your entire life. Any game that can cause this much assmad among underage bandwagoners is good.

Sour grapes cuz you suck

It was and it surprised me it wasn't even how I thought it would be like. I was under the assumption it was mostly a traditional beat 'em up in the same way Final Fight and other classics were. Instead its full of shitty platforming and autoscroller levels. Shame because the NES game could have been way better. Cool characters and concept but the game wasn't good.

yeah, for nes standards this game is good. Nut sure whats wrong with OP

I wouldn't really call it overrated, it has a higher profile than it probably deserves because of the long standing status as a shitpost topic and the prank calls but I remember people back in that era 10 years ago making fun of people who went and got the rom and then posted that it wasn't that great saying it's a shitty game and that's the joke. They were probably just being mean though because it's really a fine game.

It's hard but most NES games were, the small high detail levels with a only a couple enemies on screen at once probably make it feel more unfair than SMB or Ninja Gaiden or something where there's a little more scroll distance. If they had given you a couple more traditional beat-em-up levels before the comically difficult speeder bike level it probably wouldn't even have become a shitpost topic in the first place cause it'd feel less unfair if you had a chance to have a nice little play session and fight some enemies before going into a different type of gameplay and being likely to get a hard game over if you aren't perfect

It's your typical game for home systems of the time that was made artificially longer by adding some sections of strict memorization. This was even more typical of western companies (like Rare). When comparing Battletoads to other memorizers of the era it has better production values, hit detection, controls and stuff. For instance, it's quite better than Dragon's Lair for the NES. But it doesn't measure up to other better designed games (won't tell what games since /vr/ has hated on me a lot every time I talk about my tastes).

That tard thinks Rockin' Kats and Sonic Adventure are good.

Way ahead of you, buddy. Way ahead.

>> No.4475989

What the fuck? It's the best game on the system. Most graphically impressive game on the system, varied and unique level design, entertaining soundtrack, charming dialogue, challenging, always hectic, etc. It's even generous with the amount of lives you can get and the amount of continues and the warps to skip levels--there's even a simple cheat code to get 6 lives per continue instead of 4.

Bad for co-op, I'll give you that.

>> No.4476024

I'm not ready to concede that, but only due to the fact that I'm kind of a casual, most of the NES games I've beaten are first party, and I know that plenty of games that are too hard for me are still good games in their own right.

I do think BT&DD is better though.

Interesting world and characters though. Surprisingly original for a Ninja Turtles knockoff.

Newfags, it's clearly Doom3.

Anyway how on earth would anyone claim it to bad when games like Hunt for the Red October, Captain Planet and the Planeteer and raid 2020 exist on same system and suck monkey dick compared to it?
