Depends on the type of outdoorsy area.

If it's a city you're going to want some tall buildings, lightposts and some streets, probably some sign posts and buildings you can go into.

If it's a forest then lots of trees, shade and bushes.

If it's a desert then sand and cactuses and maybe an Oasis or two, and a nice blue sky and Headless Kamikazes

If it's snowy areas then see Winter's Fury.

Ultra-Violence - like UV in vanillia doom, except monsters behave like nightmare except respawning
Nightmare - like NM in vanillia doom, except without double ammo
Rape - Less ammo, less armor, monsters have 2x health and respawn way quicker, you receive 2x damage. Good luck.
Heaven and Hell - everything instagibs everything.
Hell and Hell - everything instagibs you. find the cover.
Tough Guys - all monsters have 10x more hp. you receive slightly less damage and you can find shitload of ammo

I'm rather proud of the final part of the level. I feel like it's probably been done before, but I haven't seen it, so it's new to me.

As far as traps go, I'd say it's about 50/50 traps/spicing up backtracking. And by "spicing up backtracking," I mean either enemies or items. Since it's my first map, I started doing more than I could handle, and focused on a lot of detail earlier on. I wasn't able to put as much of a focus on exploration as I wanted to. I have oriented that map in such a way that the player is forced into all the areas I worked hard on, and the secrets are very skip-able.

It's my first map, ever, so no I haven't used it before. Also, take a look at the left side of the map compared to the right. You'll notice the areas to the right of the cafeteria/kitchen area are really... empty; while the areas on the left are a bit more filled out. That's what I meant by, "I started doing more than I could handle, and focused on a lot of detail earlier on."

By no means do I think it'll be anything crazy and amazing, but I do have detail work to finish. The only thing truly finished is the layout, and concept, of the level.

Found a pack with working Heretic/Hexen/Strife in UDMF configs for Doom Builder if anyone was looking for that kind of thing. Adding every config in this pack can inflate Doom Builder's load time so delete all the stuff you don't need.

There are 5 values you can use:

-Extremly good (5)
-Good (4)
-Average (3)
-Bad (2)
-Shit (1)

And those are the properties that can be assigned a value:
-Max speed
-Weight (for the ramming physics)
-Item variation (if picking up a random item chooser, someone with a low item variation can only choose between a small bunch of items)

The current classes are:
-Lost soul

So just make something like:

-Acceleration: (3)
-Max Speed: (4)
-Handling: (3)
-Weight: (3)
-Item variation: (2)
(3+4+3+3+2 = 15)

So yeah, give me ideas!

I've got a working Heretic in UDMF config now anyway. In Hexen format, you need to use a script and tag every sector you want colored.

You use the plasma rifle as if it were a super chaingun, fires faster (keeps them stunned) and does fuckloads more damage.


It's shots can do as much as 40 damage a hit.
Using the bfg can waste ammo in some cases due to overkill.

Multiplayer note: The plasma gun can also kind of suppress/freak out players if they see a huge volley of it. It's more in your face than bulletpuffs.

Well, I was going to say B at first but the bottom of the explosion sprite looks kind of off, A might look better if it was actually gibbing the zombieman.
How much are you willing to hand draw/touch up?

Given my own experience in modding a spritesheet (it got tedious as fuck by the end of it) I often did not draw my own things but played around with other assets. I'd get really perfectionist like on individual pixels.

SLADE for the decorate of your gun, you'll also use that to line up your sprites and offset them etc so the player sees it when he pulls it out.

For cleric: he has 3 ways to heal (scroll, potions, Serpent Staff's drain), his flechette is just best way to exterminate bosses, just put 12-13 of them under boss and it's dead in few seconds plus it hurts through Heresiarch's barrier and centaures' shield block. Wraithverge is just 10/10 to clean last levels because they contain a lot of annoying centaures.
But if you'll play as fighter on skill 4 (equals NM in (G)ZDoom), it's fun to fight ranged enemies at close distance.

you guys are getting the "get servers" and "refresh servers" button confused

when you start doomseeker, it retrieves a list of server IPs from the master server

the refresh button, seen on the right, refreshes only those IPs

the get server button, seen on the left, retrieves a new list of IPs from the server

Start with some DM or CTF, they're easier to make, if you remember the basic rules.

For the maps, definitely western themed, but I was wondering about cover.

I was planning on having a lot of smallish cover (think crates in e1m2 but more spaced out) and then some larger cover as well. I would space them about as wide as a player but not much more so that you could hide behind them but it wouldn't be as easy to avoid someone right on the other side.

Cover is good, but make sure there's not too much cover. Instagib gets really annoying when you don't know where anyone is or where you just got killed from.

In Zdoom, it's quite easy. 3D Sectors have been supported for a while, and you get even more flexibility in GZdoom, for example sloped 3D sectors.

There's some vanilla fags around here, though most of the discussion focuses on Zdoom and its runty offspring, and things that are compatible with 'em.

I will always prefer these to zdoom wads but doom ultra purists are total cancer. You know who I mean, the ones who shriek and shit the moment they see a map that uses a new gun/monster or even in some cases texture then say it's all ''overused'' when people have been making stock doom maps for nearly twenty years.

I dont actually mind maps that play like old school doom but might mix it up a bit like having a bridge, a new monster or some 3d floors.
I had quite a lot of fun with Brutal doom for a while and I'd been playing regular doom for years before it came out.
