I bought this crt solely because it had an hdmi port. It's a strange beast. Picture is pretty good for a tube, 240p looks better on my 32" Toshiba. I wanted this for use in a mame cab.

taking pictures is hard. I have no idea what the native resolution is. It's a tube so I suppose it can handle a bunch of different resolutions, It can do 60Hz up to 800x600 then it drops to 30Hz (looks crappy)

Wow,so you haver all the disadvantages of a CRT, plus all the disadvantages of a modern HD TV. congrats on buying the worst CRT possible.

this tv is going to upscale and interlace everything, it only outputs 1080i

You fucked up. HD CRTs are only useful for HD content, their SD support is generally bad.

27 inch is awfully big for an arcade cabinet don't you think? You should have just hooked your PC up to it and sent it 640x480@60khz with a simple scanline filter in an emulator. If you do that, you'll get results that are very close to good 240p and it'll be a lot less hassle to set up. It's generally considered better to just use a VGA CRT for this kind of an application since it'll support way more various resolutions so you won't end up with as big a black bars in a lot of games but you could be waiting a while to find such a big VGA CRT. It's not going to be as bad as Anon is telling you but don't hook real consoles up to it. This is a screen for progressive scan signals only. Full stop. If you want to play retro games on it, do it through emulation.

You're gonna wanna feed it either 1080i, 480p, or 540p.

why you make something so stupid?
really! is so difficult to read one of the fucking CRT threads here? basically tells you why this thing is garbage!
the people here are really stupid

'hd ready' hdtvs are digital, not suitable for analog 240p rgb signal and likely does not support 240p even if it was a digital signal. still need a rgb to component line doubler.

>>4463771
most, if not all 4:3 'hd ready' hdtvs are 1024x768 native. yes, i said 1024x768. can't say if any 4:3 hdtv supports that resolution over dvi or vga, but that's what they are.

CRTs don't have native resolutions other than their physical size/dot pitch which is probably a very high number indeed for a display like OPs although it doesn't sync higher than 1080i according to its specs

>> No.4466083

>>4465506
nah, i'm betting the dot pitch is shit. Very few consumer CRT's were any different. Even Sony only changed to the fine pitch tubes on their very last, expensive HD CRTs. JVC had a few, and i think the last Lowe Aconda's might have as well. And there's a single toshiba model in 23 and 36 i believe.

they're not 'native' in the way a flat panel display is, but they are optimized for a specific resolution

>> No.4466239

>>4465506
HD CRTs do have a native resolution due to the scaler, everything gets sampled and scaled.

>>4466239
No, they don't. They have a range of compatible resolutions defined by their pixel clocks. TVs like this one upscale out of range signals like 480i/240p (which is some pretty low frequency stuff relatively speaking) but they still "natively" support 480p, 720p and 1080i or at least this one's spec sheet says it does. Plug the HDMI into a PC and it'll probably report a lot of other supported resolutions as well.

>>4466083
Yeah, upon close examination of OPs pic the physical resolution is probably only in the 1280x1024 neighborhood which is pretty fucking coarse for a display that size. I guess it was made by Konka group so yeah.

>> No.4467591

>>4467192
Very few CRT HDTVs support 720p natively, most scale it to 1080i, 480p either gets scaled or on some nicer ones it letterboxes it to 540p then expands the raster it in 540p and expands the raster. Only professional HD monitors will actually change the output line rate, consumer HD CRTs are usually fixed 33.75kHz.

>> No.4467603

>>4467591
No consumer HD CRT outputs 720p. It's either 1080i or 540p.
