Enjoyed the shit out of this game but damn was it easy. I only had one character get knocked out in the entire game and he was insta revived by some ring he was wearing. I remember the final boss being so fucking easy - you could use the main guy and the two girls (I forget the plot and characters its been so long) to create an infinite loop that would knock the boss's attack time down each turn and keep him from making a single attack.

Got cancelled after shit sales of Grandia 2's port because the port was shit and butchered by incompetent people with only mobile game experience attempting something way out of their depth.

No, it sold poorly because it's literally a shit port.
Audio is completely desynced and gets worse the longer you play since audio is synced for 25 FPS as in the original Dreamcast code, but the game got recoded for 30 FPS on PC and this causes audio desyncs.
There's plenty of visual glitches, random crashes and even save corruption issues at random that were never fully fixed either.
It's literally a shit port.

Know what else was a shit port? Dark Souls 1 and Nioh.

Face it, Grandia is a shit series and you suck.

Dark Souls 1 was a good port performance wise and didn't have any bugs either. It's only issue was lack of arbitrary resolution support and lack of 60 FPS support.
Nioh's issues were patched.

Grandia 2's issues are literally critical and completely ruin the game, NOBODY wants to play a game where audio desyncs, doesn't loop and doesn't play properly and gets WORSE the longer your game session. Furthermore where your save getting permanently corrupted also having proportionally higher chance the longer you play.

It's a goddamn shit port that can't be salvaged, now fuck off back to /v/ you /v/ermin.

>>4463604
The 2002 port is funnily enough better, since it's just a 1:1 port of the PS2 version and doesn't have the same audio desync issues or save corruption like the new port.

Yeah it was on the easy side. I've not used a single healing item besides the ones that are reusable and still beat the game. That worked out for the good, though, because money is actually pretty sparse.

>>4463576
if I recall correctly, the 2000 pc release was less buggy and still had the same 1080p resolution support than the Steam Anniversary version.

Sort of, it supports various 4:3 resolutions up to 1440x1080, which is a 4:3 equivalent of 1080p as well as 1600x1200.
The problems with the old PC port were the ones it inherited from the PS2 version (glitchy visuals on some setups and low quality videos) as well as additional issue of heavily compressed music, lower quality than on PS2.

Emulating Dreamcast version is still objectively the best way to experience Grandia 2 to this day.

Grandia II got some shit it didn't deserve. I thought it was one of those cases where yeah, the plot isn't terribly original but the execution I thought was OK. The music was pretty darn good, even the battle themes which are rarely good in JRPGs.

Some of the Valmar stuff was legitimately freaky, especially when Selene falls on the Cathedral Knights' swords to form the Heart of Valmar. Her and the Pope's devotion was pretty scary. Also, Mareg dying was sad as fuck.

Tio is stupid, though.

"objectively" the best way to do it is on Dreamcast, not emulating it, and display on a monitor so you can get 480p out of it.

Wrong anon, you can't play it in higher resolutions, retranslated and undubbed on a Dreamcast.

>> No.4464015

>>4463662
what good is the undub or the resolution when the game corrupts your saves and the audio desync is so abysmal that it nearly makes the game unplayable

While I'm not saying that Grandia 2 didn't have great battle music (the track that plays in a fight with one of Valmar's parts is one of my favorites), the best music in a JRPG is often its battle themes IMO.

They are good in almost all good JRPGs. I mean, I won't argue with this statement in general, because JRPG is a genre that has loads of games that are garbage in every aspect. But name a classic JRPG and it probably has a catchy battle theme.
