Favorite retro Star Wars game?

Mine is a toss up between this gem and Rebel Assault 2

The universe felt like star wars and I felt like I was on a huge adventure.

>rush home to play it

Nearly all SW games appear crap tier when compared to the PC space combat sims, and pic related is the king of that mountain.

Dark Forces is so goddamn good. I played it for the first time about three years ago, and I'm actually upset that people don't ever talk about it.
I played the rest of the games in the series, and they're not nearly as good, but get way more praise. Jedi Outcast in particular is quite an awful game, and yet /v/ reveres it.

Jedi Outcast has the most obtuse levels I've ever seen in a shooter. I'm not ashamed to say that I got stuck constantly.
The combat feels good, though. I'm not sure why but shooting stormtroopers is incredibly satisfying through the whole series.

Jedi Knight and Tie Fighter are my personal favorites.

Combat doesn't feel good imo, and this is mostly due to the wildly imbalanced weapons and plain retarded enemy placement. Nar Shaddaa and the level that follows it are some of the most unfortunate levels I've played in a shooter.
The E-11 feels so good in Dark Forces, I used it the entire game. The E-11 in Jedi Outcast is a mess.

This and Shadows of the Empire are difficult for me to pick from. I remember getting the demo floppies from CGW back in the day and hopping on my mom's PC to play the fuck out of this after school, but I loved the fuck out of shadows gameplay. Hard to pick.

Does Republic Commando count? I have it for the original Xbox, and I just beat it after ten years. Super fun, and still looks pretty good.

I'm a nostalgia slut for mysteries of the sith.

Feels like guilty fan fiction of already dark forces fan fiction

Dark Forces is probably my favorite game. I've been playing it since I was 3 or 4. IIRC it was the first time you had an FPS where you could have floors on top of each other. Each level is different but all feel like star wars. I'm still pissed they cut it from being Canon and replaced it with rogue one

While my SW gaming love is mostly reserved for the X-Wing series and the Dark Forces series, I've got a special place in my heart for SW: Rebellion, that 4X game for PC. Empire at War was meant to replace it, but I like Rebellion better. Just wish they could've made the interface less tedious, and it could use a graphics upgrade throughout. Oh, and RebEdit is your friend.

Jedi Outcast is severely underrated. It is definitely not perfect but it's design has some overlooked genius:

Like Dark Forces II, the game begins without a lightsaber, which is surprising because after giving it to you at the beginning of MotS you would expect them to not blue ball you,
especially since the saber combat was massively improved from a literal generic DOOM style melee weapon.

The first lightsaber level after training, Nar Shadda seemed like the worst possible level to introduce the lightsaber on.
The first moment of combat in the bar you are surrounded from all sides by a large group. The Grans are throwing thermal detonators at you.
This reminds you to use your force push, and that the lightsaber isn't necessarily the best weapon for every situation.
Then you hit the streets. Rodians are firing the disruptor rifle at you, reminding you to use force speed and jump, and once again not all problems or situations can be solved by standing idle with your saber.

In Dark Forces II they also did a good job of this, the first lightsaber level was a constant reminder that this is first and foremost a FPS, and that the
lightsaber is one of many tools available to you. Jedi Academy NEVER had this, I almost never, NEVER used any gun I had even though I had used them a lot of Outcast. There is even one level where
you are imprisoned and force to, and I guarantee almost everyone probably skipped that one on replay.

>Jedi Outcast is severely underrated
There's no way that's true. It was praised at the time of it's release, especially the PC version which earned mostly 90% scores or higher. And sites like reddit and 4chan can't stop singing the praises of Outcast, specifically the lightsaber combat which feels sloppy and really floaty if you ask me.

Too bad it's basically inaccessible without a joystick, though I guess you could use whatever modern console controller you have lying around.

>>4456194
Dark Forces is great, Jedi Knight is shit and Outcast was good until they give you the lightsaber then it went to shit...Academy is great, though.

>>4456546
It came out in like 2005 so no.

>>4456923
And that's why Jedi Academy is the best, because you have a lightsaber and you can use it the whole game if you want and fuck all those guns...a game with fucking JEDI in the title shouldn't force you to use guns.

Just virtual box sp. Works really well. The best way to do this is to virtualbox win98se and then upgrade to xp from an update package that can be obtained quite easily. Ive found a lot of problems trying to find good xp Iso's to install from virtualbox, but thats just my experience.
