I love those soundtracks but if we're trying to be objective in regards to what the sound programmer did The Adventures of Batman and Robin is fucking mind blowing. There is a strong argument to be made that it isn't just the best Genesis soundtrack, but maybe the best video game soundtrack of all time in terms of "Holy shit how did he do that?".

The other thing that is amazing is the length of the tracks before they loop. Jesper Kyd the sound engineer poured his soul into that YM2612 Genesis chip.

The first time I heard some of these tracks I thought someone was fucking with me and that it was simply some remake of the original music on more modern hardware.

The graphics and sound in that game are both very impressive. You certainly don't expect to see that sort of hardware mastery from a non-Japanese developer.

I'm more impressed when I hear the Genesis make the sort of music you don't expect to hear from it, though.

Time Trax on Mega Drive/Genesis has the dopest soundtrack, but you pretty much have to play the PAL 50hz version for the music to sound correct. It's sped up on the NTSC 60hz version.

I'm a fan of any track that has high-intensity guitar riffs, be it the real thing or a facsimile of it. As far as I'm concerned there weren't enough tracks like that back in the 8/16-bit days, save for certain boss themes (and the Thunder Force tracks already posted).

But anything written with a more guitar-centric playstyle is awesome to me.

I love the ending track so much, it sounds bittersweet and perfectly matches what happens. But at least the ninja completed what he was tasked to do.

Everything on Namco System 2 is incredible musically, visually, and gameplay-wise. There's an Assault cabinet not too far from my house and it's so much fun.

Musically, my favorite on that hardware is Burning Force, although that's Yoshinori Kawamoto's music. Taito's Groove Coaster recently added a Burning Force medley of these three tracks that I play a lot.
