What's the deal with Double Dragon and how come they never managed a consistent art style/canon?

>> No.4445170

It's just two brothers who like fucking crime up, the most their personality entails is that they like Marion and one likes wearing blue and one likes wearing red

But why did they switched hair colors in the NES version? And why did the blond one became a bad guy in the NES version? And if Marian is Billy's girlfriend and Billy's the blue guy, how come she's cheating on him with Jimmy on the cover of Double Dragon II? Isn't she supposed to be dead in the sequel? How come she stays dead in the arcade version but comes back to life on the NES?

>> No.4445226

There's also a third character called Bimmy or whatever. And they completely changed the story for the overseas release.

Because the creators of Double Dragon are so frickin' dumb.

>>4445207
When I see the cover of Double Dragon 2, it reminds me of the movie "Double Impact", which I consider it to be the true version of a live action Double Dragon movie. Not that official turd that came out a year or two later.

I always wondered if they meant Billy to be the red guy and Jimmy to be the blue guy, but somewhere along they got the colors mixed up and that's how Billy Lee ended up becoming a poor man's Kenshiro on the console versions.

That was Double Dragon III on the NES and it's kinda weird. They changed the final boss from Cleopatra to Marian in the localization, but they did it in such a half-assed way compared to other localizations.

I wish they had gotten a hold of the same artist to do the art for Double Dragon IV. They tried to mimic her art style for the cutscenes and promo art (they even traced Billy and Jimmy's faces from the flyer) art, but it doesn't come off as well as it should have.

By the way, does anyone here actually Double Dragon 3 (the arcade one)? The JP version (emulated on MAME) got rid of the microtransactions from the U.S. version.

They couldn't include the co-op mode from the arcade game, but the title of the game references both brothers, so they made Jimmy the evil guy and downgraded Willy to just be his henchman in order to have both brothers in the game.

It's just that.

Not him, but this was common knowledge among DD1 players for years. Most Youtube ecelebs probably only played the NES version anyway, which forced you to level-grind to gain the elbow strike (which wasn't as effective as it was on the arcade).
