I love the music in this series and all the arrange albums. Burst is my favorite game, though I play the original regularly on PS4. It's very hard since you're fucked once you die once.

Arcade Archives got a release. A quick glance and it looks like it only got released in the asian PSNs. Kinda weird since the US PSN got Ninjawarriors not too long ago.

It includes the original and extra version. Looks pretty nice if your TV is big enough.

I think crossovers aren't as common or successful on shmups since they're mostly an aesthetic thing and fans of this genre (outside of a vocal minority of moe-loving otakus) are there much more for the gameplay than the fandom of most other genres

the slowdown is massive at points, much more than in the arcade version, and there are other small issues like music cutting out sooner than it should.

by contrast, the ps2 port (in taito legends 2) only differs from the arcade version in that it has slightly less slowdown. it's the version to play if you want audio.

I think they have different audiences. Gradius seems to be made for people who like to explore and have a slightly different experience each playtrhough, if you were only interested in 1cc'ing only the hardest route matters and you'd be missing out most of the content in the game.
