Not having Diddy makes me sad and the soundtrack isn't nearly as good. It certainly isn't a bad game though.

Uh... I guess 3 has what may be the hardest few levels in any of the games—marginally—but by and large it's the same challenge. If there's anything "hard" about the game it's getting used to the fact that you have to do it all with medium- and low-agility characters, always feeling slightly like you're running through molasses. This makes the platforming unsatisfying, but not difficult.

Plus you can't throw either Kong without feeling like a retard. Again, this is not hard in and of itself, it's just not fun to do. Diddy and Dixie throwing each other felt pretty natural and was even a viable attack in some situations. Dixie throwing Kiddy is like this seldom-used solution to a handful of situations where you can break a floorboard or throw Kiddy and then twirl from a handlebar in the second level. Kiddy throwing Dixie arcs weird, can't reliably be optioned as an attack most of the time, and is just a means to an end getting up to certain platforms.

I don't even necessarily think 2's aesthetic is way better than 3's. The enemies look kind of shitty in 3, but I liked the game's more muted, serene feel to its wooded areas and the less flamboyant music (though if I had to pick a soundtrack for Desert Island it'd still be 2's).

I understand that there's some people who are way too hard on 3, but that doesn't change the fact that it is the weakest game.
