Yo /vr/
Im having some issues with this huge green looking thing
I never owned one of those before and it just came in my mail today
Pretty much, i plugged the outlet in, it worked just fine, i took a look around the HDD, settings and stuff and then i decided to turn it off as i needed to take the dog out
Literally 15 minutes later, i came back, turned it on and bam, this mofo died on me
It didn't turned on, it's like it isn't even connected at all (even though i can hear the frrr sound when i plug the shit in) and i literally have no idea on what i should do
Should i open this thing and post some pictures?
Anyone that can help me out?

Most likely it hadn't been powered up for years and the clock capacitor had expired but it didn't rupture and kill the board until you powered it on. Open it up and examine pic related for signs of eruption and pyroclastic floe on the motherboard.

It's absolutely not 'technically' an extension of the Dreamcast, and even if it was, by that logic the 360 and Xbox One are retro because they can all play Xbox and Xbox 360 games. This particular thread doesn't bother me, but 6th gen (and certainly not 7th) is simply not retro. Board rules are what they are, it's not debatable.

>Where did I imply those things about Quake 3 and Halo, though?
Oh no, it wasn't about you, it was about >>4430943 saying it's pretty retro.

What I meant under it was that Quake 3 was retro by /vr/ standard in 2013 when /vr/ became a board.
But Halo that only came out a year later and was in development at the same time is still not retro several years latter. Seems unfair.

Unplug it from power.
Let it stand for 15min.
Open it up, carefully, keep all the screws tagged and don't pull any cables harshly, go slow and careful.

Watch some teardown videos on YouTube beforehand as it shits for those 15 minutes.

If you can see obvious blown caps, you will know what's wrong with it and what to repair.

If you do, give away the old one for someone else to repair, don't just throw it away.

Yes you should open it. Aerogel caps like the clock cap are acidic but not outrageously so, about like say paint thinner and even a big cap only dumps a table spoon full out. There was a meme video for a while of some wisenhiemer feeding high voltage straight into a low voltage cap causing it to squirt out boiling hot acid that scared a bunch of people kind of like the dbelectronics 5v 3.3v videos but no, if it's unplugged it's not going to hurt you.

>>4430980
Sadly a table spoon full of paint thinner while not being enough to damage your skin very much in the time it takes to wipe it off on a damp rag can wreak havoc on a PCB in just a few hours. Traces may need to be rebuilt and additional components may have suffered collateral damage.
