Everythings working fine on NP2 on Wine on Ubuntu, except the sound lags
How can I fix this lag?
Everywhere online people say the sound works brilliantely on NP2, but this isn't the case with me for some strange reason

>> No.4429995

It's a 1 second lag, but it's still really annoying

First you should try either the fmgen or the kai builds, as they are just better than the regular.

If that doesn't fix it automatically, try changing your sound buffer.

Yeah I got np2fmgen
I got my hdi for emulator from https://nyaa.si/view/968479
I can't find sound buffer
Also apparantely you can change to an external sound generator but I can't find that option either

Emulate>Configure on the menu. Set it very low (50 ms or so) then very high (5000ms or so) and see if that changes how much the sound lags. If that does it, you'll have to trial and error finetune it yourself.

If that fails, disable Seek Sound on the Device>Sound menu. It helped me in some very select cases.

50ms decreased sound lag while 5000ms increased sound lag
Why does the sound by default have a buffer of 500ms?
Wouldn't people want less sound lag (smaller buffer) than high sound lag
Maybe I've misunderstood the meaning of sound buffer
Sorry if these are dumb questions, this is the second emulator I've ever tried
(I got SNES emulator to play Search for Eden, had no problems with that emulator at all)

There are no dumb questions.
500ms is a setting that doesn't give any trouble to most people, but due the variations of sound hardware, drivers, operating system, sound API, game and so on there can be problems with that. Having a smaller buffer will also increase hardware requirements, so the highest possible that doesn't cause any problems is the best.

So my computer for this particular emulator and game runs better on low buffer, and my hardware is decent enough to handle the increased requirements
However this would change if my emulator or game was different
Thanks for the friendlieness btw
These are my first posts ever on /vr/, and so far this is the friendliest board I've ever been on
