What are the differences ? Is there input and sound lag?

>> No.4426965

Yes and yes, it's fine for most games but don't even bother trying to play a game that needs decent timing. Visually it's about the same, it has the usual soft filter option.

>> No.4426972

PS2 had legit PSX motherboard and CPU included in it for backwards compatibility, while I'm assuming PS3 emulates?

Not that the result really matters for the user.

>> No.4426986

>>4426972
It matters. PS2 is far more accurate and plays the games better.

PS1 and PS2 output 240p, PS3 does not.

Does the PS3 even have analog output for this to matter...?

>> No.4427090

>>4426957
There's a bit of input lag on PS3. Not enough to be a big deal for most games, but enough to be noticeable. The PS3 also can't output 240p so it's best if you want to play on an HDTV, trying to hook it up to a CRT will usually result in your eyes getting murdered from all the flickering.

>> No.4427092

>>4427086
If you are asking whether you can hook it up to a standard definition television, yes, you can plug it in with the component video cables, same as a 360. You will get 480i output.

>>4427078
I don't see anything wrong with playing MGS on PS3.

>>4427086
It did, since it uses the same multi-out as the original PS1, so theoretically you could run RF off the thing.

>> No.4427096

>>4427086
It has the same av connector as the PS2. I use the same S-Video cable on my PS2 (for games) and PS3 (for DVDs and the handful of PS2 games I have downloaded form PSN) hooked up to the same CRT, I just swap the cable between them.

>> No.4427105

>>4427095
>so theoretically you could run RF off the thing
Back before I got an HDTV I was outputting my PS3 through composite cables connected to a RF adapter which was connected to a piece of junk from the early 80s. Truly how the developers intended.

PS3 slim removed the emotion chip and ablity to read ps2 discs. The fatter PS3 supported it.

You can download digital ps2 games on the store.

The slim PS3 read ps1 discs and has the hardware. But a older tv would be needed

Elaborate. They wouldn't sell it if it froze.

No PS3 has the PS1 hardware, games from both the CD and the store are being emulated.

Ok PS3 emulates. Most PSN downloads of PS1 games have anti aliasing(makes models smoother) however this introduces emulator slowdown you wouldn't see using a disc. As for input lag I personally dont notice it but I haven't used it in a while.

Playsation 2 fats use the ps1 cpu(ps2 IO processor is a overclocked ps1 processor) however many slims use emulation for some reason apparently though dont quote me on it; I have never owned a ps2 slim.

>>4427120
Actually many fat ps3's also removed the emotion chip too(or the gpu). The launch fats that have the model code "CECHBxx" and "CECHAxx" have the full ps2 hardware. I also believe that sony disabled emulation via ps2 discs in every ps3 that isnt the launch ones.

That is some grade A bullshit, the "antialiasing" is a simple HQ3x-like filter, and you can do it on both CD and PSN downloads, and it doesn't slow down dick.

>>4427185
Yes it does. It may not be anti aliasing but whatever it does it slows down the emulation. Compare spyro 3 on disc and downloaded, specifically on the level charmed ridge. Or spyro 2 on the level cloud temples. The music slows down and gameplay gets slower. Thats emulation slowdown kid.

>> No.4427204

And im not talking about the filtering settings in the menu either. The downloads of at least the spyro trilogy do smooth the models. That doesn't happen on disc. I have studied this for a grand amount of minutes.

>> No.4427220

>>4427198
>Thats emulation slowdown kid.

No, that's the fact that downloaded Spyro games on PS3 run ecceptionally bad at 60Hz while I suspect you come from a 50Hz region and not only it is a different emulator from the CD, it experiences less slowdown because the CPU is less likely to be stressed for whatever reason that is that downloaded Spyro games run like crap on PS3 in general.

>> No.4427227

>>4427220
Im in north america. The spyro games run fine when playing from the CD, downloaded they have emulation slowdown and there is some sort of smoothing going on(that isnt the filter in the menu.

Long-time hacked PS3 owner here, the actual explanation of this is physical/downloaded discs and PSN copies use two completely different emulators - PS1EMU and PS1NETEMU respectively. The former is much, much better overall but has some restrictions, like not being able to render in true 4:3 or upscale beyond 480p and having a much simpler PS button menu. It also has trouble playing streamed music tracks with certain hard drives in my experience. Netemu on the other hand can be upscaled to any resolution and will smooth the graphics regardless of your choice, its emulation is less accurate overall and things often go out of sync, especially sequenced music. It's actually slightly more optimized lag-wise though, you'll have a much better time playing Vib Ribbon's on the PSN emulator than via disc.

Well, look at the list of games not supported on the PS2 (Trilogy kind of works, despite what the list says, I own it).

Unless one of those not particularly amazing games is what you're getting a PSX for, definitely go PS2. In addition to the PS2's insane library, you get all the PSX library with component video out and the proper 240p.

I'd tell you it's how it handles the dithering. The one or two times I played a 3D PS1 game on my PS2 I noticed the same thing. I was running it on a CRT as well, but with component cables.
