Because people may have been actually alive when the system came out and they may have been exposed to such quirks of not necessarily logical pop culture social difussion.

I'm sure you can start a GoFundMe to completely eradicate this source of continuous stress for you through some airborne agent maybe

Only people too young to have been alive (or meaningfully cognizant) during the console's lifespan get triggered by "PSX."

It was originally called the "PlayStation X" in early media promotions. The "X" was dropped from the name before release, but for some reason gaming magazines and websites still used the PSX abbreviation. Probably because people had got used to it.

I wish they would just call it PS1. There's a version of the PS2 that was released in Japan with some DVR capabilities, which was actually called PSX.

I used it when the Playstation was current, but the only reason I use it online is because it's easier to type, and it rustles autists who can't into slang.
Same reason I use the slang term clip for a magazine.

I use PSX to differentiate for my gamer friends when we talk about vidya... specifically concerning games that have seen multiple releases on different formats or when I'm specifying WHICH PlayStation I'm speaking of.

"I have the PSX version of FF tactics"
"Bring your memory card" "Which one?" "Your PSX one".

Not entirely sure WHY I started to call it that. Though I was in my early teens with a subscription to EGM at the time of its release so that may play a part in it.

During development the original Playstation was known as Playstation X (X standing for either eXperimental or eXpansion depending on your source) but for some reason Sony dropped the X before the system was released. However gaming journalists at the time (gaming magazines in particular) kept using the acronym PSX and most gamers also kept using it on internets all the way up to the time Playstation 2 and PSOne, the new resigned version of the original Playstation came out. At this point the acronyms and their meaning were crystal clear to everyone: PSX meant the original grey version of the original Playstation and the new smaller redesign of it was referred as PS1.

Yes, there was another box called PSX in Japan. No one bought it and it wasn't and still isn't anyway relevant to the rest of the world except for underage shitposters on internet forums.

To this day I still wonder where the fuck the Internet got the idea that everyone has always called the original Playstation PS1 before Playstation 2 even came out?

In Japan it's logically called the PS, because apparently they don't sperg out over making every fucking thing a three-letter acronym (TLA).

at release, nobody called the first xbox by xbox1 or x180, ofc it doesnt hep that xbox3 is called "xbox one", and xbox2 is xbox 3xx

just like nobody called ATA hard drives by PATA,
nobody called DDR by DDR1,
nobody called tombraider 1996 by tombraider1,
and nobody called the first reich by first reich at the time,
trust me i was there.

No, that's not even remotely true. Here you go - pic related - a magazine from Eastern EU dated 2001(so like 6 years AFTER playstation release date). Trust me, Czechs and Slovaks also used PSX to describe the sony console.

I wasn't implying people should have used "PS1" when the console was new, but in modern context it makes more sense than "PSX".

Just like how it was just called Xbox, and then when the 360 came out a lot of people called it Xbox 1, and now that the Xbone is around people call it "original Xbox".

Actually, now that I think about it, I've never heard anyone call it "PSX" out loud before. Most people call it PlayStation or PS1 when actually speaking. I only ever see people type PSX for whatever reason.

>> No.4425329

I was a live and even older when the system came out and I never ever heard anybody refer to it as PSX or, much less, Playstation X. Perhaps gaming magazines called it that at one time early on, but it was mostly just Playstation once the system came out (in fact, I don't remember PSX ever being mentioned by EGM or Game Informer, etc after the system came out, but it could just be my bad memory). Maybe it's a Europe vs USA thing or different regions of the USA called it PSX while it didn't catch on in others?

I always called it the PSX...then the PSOne came out and you had to call the grey box a PSX to distinguish the two and that's what I have so that's what I call it...but if I'm just talking about games it can either be PSX or PS1, though mostly I just use PSX because I can just hold shift and hit 3 letters instead of having to let off shift to hit the 1.
