This is the best Zelda game. Only nostalgia fags hate it.

i didn't hate it as a kid, but it didn't grip me the way the original zelda did

>> No.4416968

I DID hate it as a kid but I have since learned it is a B tier representation of perhaps my favorite genre. Challenge ramp is inconsistent, dungeons are samey. I think Faxanadu is better although it's also not without its flaws. I really need to get around to playing Legacy of the Wizard I picked up a copy like 2 years ago,

>> No.4416969

Why would nostalgia fags be the ones who hate it?

If anything, it's newfangled fags coming in and writing revisionist history with claims that nobody liked the game even on it's release that hate the game.

That being said I think it's not the best Zelda, but I'd still rather play it than most of the games released between 2000 and 2011.

>> No.4416974

But I am nostalgic for it. I grew up with Zelda 1 and 2. I was a little disappointed when Nintendo went back to the overhead perspective of the first game with LA and LttP rather than continue to move the series in new directions. But I suppose those games did bring a few new ideas to the series.

In principal the 3D games should have taken up on its style of gameplay, but it ended up working out that directional attacking and blocking never really became an important aspect until years later.

Bad game: no
Best Zelda: nah

There's a reason people say it's the Zelda game for people who don't like Zelda.

>> No.4417458

Played it for the first time about a year ago and loved it. It's in my top 3 zeldas for sure, and considering I grew up playing other games in the series abd have tons of nostalgia for them, I think that says a lot about the quality of this one that it was able to outdo most of them.

>> No.4417609

Legacy of the Wizard is more of a Metroid than a Zelda 2. There's no RPG elements, it's just about finding items that enhance your ability to a explore a huge labyrinth.

Zelda 2 is not the best zelda, but it's certainly better than the first one.
At least you have some clues guiding you around, you don't have to bomb every wall and burn every bush in the land in order to find stuff.
The swordplay is engaging, you have towns to visit, some really cool bosses and a certain sense of inpending doom.

No. Top ten by some metrics notably including sales but it would have to be a pretty specialized list to be in the top five.

>>4416979
I guess I should have said "I like it better". Faxanadu could certainly be more frustrating to most gamers as pretty much any frustration one might have with Zelda 2 can be ground right through (or cheesed) while the frustrating elements of Faxanadu are pretty oblique

>>4417609
Sounds good to me considering I enjoy actually sitting down and playing Metroid more than any of the NES ARPGs

>> No.4417924

>>4417905
It really depends on what kind of games you like to play. If you're used to videogames from the 80s and early 90s that are incredibly challenging, sometimes to the poing of being frustrating or confusing and don't mind to put in a lot of time to find out everything yourself then there's a probability you will love it. However, if you're not that patient and prefer to check walkthroughs when you're stuck then you are definitely going to hate it.

It's not completely different from the first castlevania control wise but the level design is. Some people believe Simon's Quest is one of the worst castlevanias or even one of the worst (might be fueled by internet opinions and so-called e-celebs, not completely sure cause I didn't play it back in the 80s and 90s), others actually like how different it is and the influence it has on the so-called "metroidvania" games like Symphony of the Night. Personally I think it's a fine game but I prefer other sidescrollers.

Please don't comment on Zelda, you weren't around then, you just don't get what makes it great, you never will. And I love Zelda II too.
