Most people often cite S&P, SF64 and PDII as some of the best rail shooters, even though they're different and each feature unique treats.
I love the melee combat on S&P and being able to deflect, that's unique to it, like how rotating on PD is unique to it, like how all range on SF is unique to it.

Did you read Maegawa's recent panel talk at 3rd game business archive?
He said Sega didn't really gave them much support for the games that weren't focused on the western market (like Yu Yu Hakusho).
Also the creator of Shining Force said that at the time of Shining in the Darkness's release (early 1991), it was reported that 1.8 million Mega Drive consoles had been sold in Japan, but in fact, it was 1/3 that number (600,000). The remaining 1.2 million were exports to other Asian countries. This is very interesting because it calls into doubt the 3.8 million total MD sales in Japan. If he's right and Sega was inflating their Japan sales numbers with Asian exports, the total sales could have just been a little over 1 million. Despite that, Shining in the Darkness was a huge hit in Japan and sold 300,000 units, so half of all MD owners bought it there!

I think Alien Soldier is amazing and one of the best MD games for me, but it came out kinda late and SoA completely fucked up by only releasing it on America through Sega channel.
Yu Yu Hakusho is also a pretty good and original fighting game based on the popular anime.
I think the problem with YYH is that it was made for the japanese public in mind, but not many people owned a MD in Japan, and maybe Sega didn't make a proper marketing campaign for it.
I think this game is up there with Super Butoden 2, Hyper Dimension and Endless Duel as far as console-exclusive fighting games of 4th gen.
Light Crusader and McD game are alright.
I like Light Crusader, it has a very western vibe while still having trademark japanese/treasure style, but the isometric gameplay isn't my favorite.
McD is an okay game, average platformer.

The producer was making the game almost completely by himself the way he wanted for a system in its death throes. Treasure games are like inferior imitations of games you would find in an arcade, that have been made more pleb-friendly in terms of difficulty and design. Arcadefags get pissed when their preferred arcade developers go ignored while so many people overhype Treasure's games. This frustrates them because to an arcade hipster, Treasure games are nothing special, where pretty much every genre they've ever dipped into has been done better by some other company. And before you try correcting me, I know Treasure made a couple arcade shumps, but those are the outliers to the rule, and arcadefags will argue that those are still gimmicky and easy compared to the cream of the arcade crop, anyways.

So what it boils down to is arcadefags shitting on consolefags. Same reason why Aladdin and Castlevania are used as console war fodder all the time around here. Just another way to wage a petty war of favouritism.

There's Guardian Heroes and YuHaku, Capcom beats them at these genres, of course.

There's their Gunstars and Alien Soldier, Konami and SNK have them beat there.

There's their platformers, like Mischief Makers and Dynamite Headdy. Sega and Namco outdid them there.

Pretty much the only game you could argue Treasure did the best at was Bangai-O, because it's so unique that no other arcade dev had tried doing before. As for their challenge, none of their games are really 'hardcore' enough for the arcade elitist, save for the couple games Treasure made for the arcades first. I guess their only challenging games would be speedrunning Mischief Makers with all S-ranks and their STGs.
