I mean, FWIW, if you're playing some lower level adventure and expect your level cap to not go high, levels in Barbarian don't really hurt a pure martial character.

>>4396842
List really isn't useful because of how multiclassing works. Monk is amazing mainly for the low level dip to get Wisdom AC, Ranger doesn't really do anything spectacular that you can't replicate with Fighter's bonus feats (and Fighter gets to be Dwarf for dwarven racials at no penalty to multiclass), and Rogue is a great UMD/skill dump class with plenty of viable builds and traps can be very good for shutting down tough "boss" encounters in most modules. Fighter is nowhere near shit tier because it is a solid base for many CoT or WM builds and just 4 levels in it let you pick up Weapon Specialization and Epic Weapon Specialization, on top of being a good Discipline dump.

And really, Clerics should be in a tier of their own.

No party members, just 1 'henchman'. A character you couldn't equip, and literally leveled up by spawning an entirely new instance of the character. It was like some amatuer made this game.

No robes, wizards wore these doofy fucking vests. No cloaks. The combat was shit, the animations were shit, the story in the original campaign was shit.

Is NWN really retro...?

Regardless I've played some fantastic modules on NWN which far exceeded the quality of the original game. Unfortunately I can't remember any of the names, which isn't much help. But the best one I played used the game engine to create an almost Zelda-like or Animal Crossing-type world with a village that developed as a result of your actions and some really cool use of skills, like spot for finding hidden treasure or listen for detecting hidden cave tunnels. All I can tell you is it used a piece of music from Arcana - Serpent Rouge.

Also Hordes of the Underdark is legit good.

>Strip a cleric naked and he loses his weapons, nearly all his defense and can't cast spells

The fuck are you talking about? Why can't he cast spells?
Spellcasters are the most versatile units that can work with mundane items or even just beat the game naked.
You can usually conjure yourself solid means of offense and defense.
Whereas Monk really needs some good bonuses from his gloves and chest armor in particular to succeed, and he also might benefit a lot from going Kamas.
>Do you know anything about D&D?
We've all read JaronK's Tier List and went through the 3.0/3.5 optimization threads and know enough to say that if "actual knowledge of D&D" was a metric in knowing stuff about NWN, Monk would be in the absolute trash gutter of classes for being absolutely unable to do anything particularly well while being heavily Multi Attribute Dependent and getting a shitton of class features that are usually replicable by some crappy throwaway mage spell you find on wands 5 levels before you get the ability.

>> No.4399681

>>4399605

Maybe in PnP that would be true, since a Cleric (usually) needs a holy symbol, but if we're exclusively talking about how NWN does things, the Cleric and the Druid require no gear at all to be unarmed powerhouses.

NWN doesn't implement spell components either, so it's not like any of the spellcasters actually have to carry items to cast spells.

Only some spells require the holy symbol, Cleric retains much of his utility without it, you can tattoo your holy symbol in tabletop to be permanently on your body, there's a cantrip that lets you summon your Holy Symbol back to you. For 50 gold pieces you can get any piece of weapon or armor sanctified, which makes it work like a holy symbol for all purposes.

If you're properly paranoid - and as a spellcaster, you should - you slap so many defensive enchantments on your things

And also, within the context of this game, where every character basically gets free Eschew Materials and whatnot, naked Cleric still beats naked Monk.

>> No.4400203

>>4399605
Do you? Monks are 3/4 BAB with no spells or class features to compensate for that and need four good stats to do anything at all. Do you know what happens when the Monk loses their enhancement bonuses to hit, AC and stat bonuses, and everything else?

I'd question if you knew anything about D&D but it's obvious you don't because you're saying that the most gear dependent class in the game is the best without gear.

Cleric needs to be above Druid. Domains and Cleric spells are just much better than anything the Druid offers, even with Shifter levels. Druid in NWN doesn't get nearly as many perks as a regular 3.5 Druid, so it's meh, and also penalties for summons are a bother.

And again, it's really hard to figure out what this tier list is supposed to be for, because Monk and Paladin form a core of many ridiculously cookie cutter and ridiculously good builds, Rogue/Shadow Dancer fill a specific, stabby niche and Rogue is also a really good skilldump/utility class for most modules.

I dunno, man, those tier lists mean too little without context - it's hard to say if they're meant to be taken as standalones (because in that case Arcane Archer definitely shouldn't be below Harper Scout) or about the general things they bring to the table.

Good god no, Druid is completely broken in NWN between 100+ AC wild shape builds and getting infinite castings per day, not to mention dropping lasting AoE's everywhere and the monster animal companion, Clerics are strong but they simply pale in comparison to Druids.

1 level of Monk is good on Druids for the Wis AC on high AC builds but that's about it, 28 Druid / 1 Ranger / 1 Rogue or Bard is a stronger Druid build.

Shadow dancer is not really that good True Sight or Spot put a stop to that as does anything with crit immunity.

You can glitch the game using wild shape so when you cast a spell they never run out, it is extremely easy to do, basically you just hotkey a shape then cast a spell mid animation and repeat, this gives you the added bonus of having your wild shape stats while casting so its best used with air elemental so you have all the immunities and sky high AC.

Druids also get some of the most broken spells in the game, Harm/Heal are instant win, Stone Hold/Grease/Storm of Vengeance/Creeping Doom/Vine Mine combos are ridiculously powerful especially if used on AT's

You can manipulate creeping dooms damage so it hits for 200+ damage every tick and it stacks on itself indefinitely letting you 1 shot anything

Using Dragon or Elemental shape you can easy reach 90 to 100+ AC making you untouchable, you can also make yourself invincible by stacking extended regeneration spell since it stacks with itself and you can use the infinite spells to stack it hundreds of times.

I want to roll a (Half-)Orc Blademaster, basically pic related solely because 1/2Orcs are uncommon, but they do have their one niche of getting their STR really high.

So generally the idea I have is basically a Greatsword STR-Rogue who can open a fight with a massive backstab and then proceed to deliver whoopass, plus gets a ton of skillpoints to throw away on frivolous pursuits. Pre-epic progression looks something like this for me:
01) Rogue (01): Dodge
02) Fighter (01): WF: Greatsword
03) Fighter (02): Mobility, Expertise
04) Rogue (02):
05) Fighter (03):
06) Fighter (04): WS: Greatsword, Spring Attack
07) Rogue (03):
08) Fighter (05):
09) Rogue (04): Whirlwind Attack

and then start on WM, picking up Knockdown, Blind Fight and so forth.

STR: 19
DEX: 13
CON: 10
WIS: 8
INT: 14
CHA: 6

Am I missing something? Suggestions? I acknowledge the Will Save will be atrocious.

I've come to the conclusion that the main modules are complete trash compared to the Interplay titles (Baldur's Gate 1&2/Icewind Dale/Planescape). And this is coming from someone who fucking adores NWN, played the fuck out of it as a teenager and a kid, learned how to mod from it, learned and loved D&D from it, played the fuck out of the MMO scene in the Roleplay servers from it.

And now that I've beat a few Interplay titles, going back to this and playing the campaign/expansion modules, I can see why diehard Bioware fans were let down. It's like they took the same initiative but stretched it reaaaaaaaaaaaaally far in these asinine long walking expeditions between point A and B, and what you get in between is just lots of empty space. Kind of like Oblivion before Oblivion was released. It suffers that same kind of...sparseness...where nothing goes on for long periods of time, which contrasts sharply from the Interplay games where everything is kind of crammed in next to each other and it's just this deep immersive thing that never lets up.

Believe you me though, I couldn't fucking stand towns/cities in the Interplay games. It was almost too much content to the point I felt like I was being saturated. Like I was a child being dumped in a pool of sugar. I just couldn't handle all of that content.

Wait, how do you own it already?

Assuming you're a time traveler, it was very likely to happen.

Beamdog's initial release of Baldur's Gate Enhanced Edition also had to have mods completely adapted for it from scratch, and it took years for the game to have the biggest, most important ones working, i.e. the 'essential' ones (some niche ones still don't work, particularly some total conversions and big mods like Northern Tales of the Sword Coast)

NWN EE is going to be in the same boat for a while, and as much was acknowledged by people like that guy who made the Swordflight custom campaign (very critically acclaimed, if you don't follow the module scene much).

Hell, I'm not even sure if you can implement stuff like CEP hakpaks or TonyK's Improved AI into it yet.
