Do you use a UPS with your retro consoles, to protect them from the grid and make sure a short power outage won't ruin your game?

Yes, it's right next to the glovebox where I keep my consoles protected from atmospheric hazards.

I use a power conditioner, that’s it

Simply losing power isn't going to hurt your consoles. A power surge could, but modern circuit breakers do a fairly good job of preventing it from happening. Get some grounded circuit breakers if you're worried.

Buying a UPS for game consoles is top tier autismo.

I got a free UPS from work so maybe I should.

The main point of a UPS is to protect against those 2 second outages that could ruin your game.
The advanced surge protection is just a bonus.

Losing power won't ruin a game though. Games don't just stop working because they're not receiving power.

You might lose save data if it happens while you're saving? Or you might lose progress from your current session? But really that's such a minor issue, sending money on UPS for that reason is kind of a joke.

It will. I haven't saved (or don't have the option for save) and been playing for hours, if there's a power outage long enough for the console to turn off, I've lost my game and have to start over.

I have battery backed UPS with surge protection for everything from my servers and computers to TV, /v/ and /vr/ consoles.
Even though I might see a quick power outage once every one or two years, it won't bother me. Also it's better surge protection than just a breaker and dedicated surge protection devices don't cost much less than a UPS, so why not also have battery backup?

Guess poorfags gonna poor.

You'll only lose what you didn't save from that session though. The game isn't ruined at all. I've never had a game save get completely deleted from a power outage before.

How often are you losing power for you to worry about this? Here in the 1st world I don't think I've lost power more than once in the last 5 years.

>> No.4394790

Yes, but I built my own UPS as I can't trust a storebought one to protect my consoles from harm.

I'm pretty sure the context the word "ruin game" was used was about gameplay session quality.
It didn't imply physical destruction or "ruin" as in cosmetic defects to the cartridge/media.
How did you even think it was about the game being physically unplayable after such an event?

>How often are you losing power for you to worry about this? Here in the 1st world I don't think I've lost power more than once in the last 5 years.
You happen to be playing at that exact time it happens, though luck.
Suit yourself though, saying that spending a miniscule amount of time and money for an UPS that's also a good surge protector isn't worth it, guess you just don't have the option, knowledge or resources. I mean, who would say no to better and just deal with what they have if they have an option to do so?

Because OP said "ruin your game" and didn't say anything about save data. That kind of implies more than just losing your save data.

I just don't really see the point in spending money on something to solve an issue that I've never had. I could buy a UPS right now, but I'd rather spend the money on more games or hardware that I want.

This. Unless you live where I used to (highest point in the county in the godforsaken Ozarks atop a hill riddled with iron deposits at the very end of the rural power grid a half hour from the nearest town with forests EVERYWHERE) then a simple midlevel power strip/surge-protector will suffice.

Yeah. No. But guess you just don't like to have a proper setup.

Guess you really don't play your games much then.
Short blackout happen, anywhere in the world, no matter how good your infrastructure is. (Not to mention, places like US don't actually have that good of infrastructure to begin with.)
You know, hospitals have generators, even though they have prioritized access to the power grid and guess what, those generators do come in handy. Even when it's just for 5 seconds a year.

you can get a UPS for under 100 burgerbucks. i guess it just depends on how much you value your free time. though we're all on 4chan, so probably not very much

The gloves are turned inside-out. The console goes inside the box and you use the gloves to play your retro vidya without contaminants.
