This.

depends on what you mean
the series is definitely one of the highlights of the platform, but obviously there are other games in other genres that are arguably just as good but very difficult to compare
if you just mean notoriety/legacy, sure

...because it's so fast?

Personally I love Genesis but I'm not crazy about Sonic

Same. Genesis is my favorite retro console and I can't stand it.

I wish there were a crab sim.

Rocket Knight Adventures is bar none the best platformer on the console.

>> No.4392410

At the point of its release it probably had the best graphics on the system. Most early titles are washed out and have bad color palettes. Otherwise, no, not really.

You mean that generation. Though you really don't come across many platformers with the sort of physics Sonic has and how he can utilize the level. Only game that I can think would be similar with utilizing your character skills with the level in interesting ways would be Gimmick!.

honestly I wish I liked Sonic but I can't get anything out of it. Genesis is all about Shinobi and Splatterhouse for me

why is /vr/ such an anti-sonic circlejerk?

Most people think Sonic is somehow flawed because you can't just hold right to win in Marble Zone.

>> No.4393597

>>4393590
I know.
It's fucking weird that people don't like sonic 1 and 2.

>RKA is the best Genesis platformer.

I disagree, it's a very good game but I think Ristar is the best platformer.

>> No.4393843

I took a pretty long look at the Genesis library recently and I felt like Sonic was the only thing that really stood out to me enough to want to play it. It's not even a familiarity thing, because a lot of games got Genesis iterations or ports that felt hollow compared to their snes counterparts.

I'm glad Sega went third party, because without Sonic, there was nothing going for them on home consoles.

Skies of Arcadia was pretty dope though.

How well do you think S3&K does when compared to SNES games?

>> No.4394848

Nigga there's all kinds of awesome shit on Genny. I say that as a guy who was Nintendo fuh life until deciding to fully explore as many possible consoles a few years ago, and finding that there are in fact many awesome games on both Sega and NEC systems.

>>4393843
In a way, this is also true of the SNES as well. It had a couple more playable games than Gen/MD of course, but they seem to mostly fall on the ones developed by either Nintendo, Square, or Konami; mostly everything else ranged from just ok to 'eh...'

>> No.4394872

>>4394028
genesis is a better name than megadrive

>> No.4394874

So you look at a bunch of games and didn't play them. Okay, I can take that opinion seriously.

More than that. He took a look at a bunch of games, didn't play any of them but thought Sonic looked the best. Lol.
