PS1 hardware is like USD $20, maybe even cheaper if the seller doesn't match eBay prices. A mod chip or swap disc should run you no more than $6. I haven't checked the prices for JVC CD-Rs recently, but they're not really expensive when you buy in bulk.

With that in mind, I would invest in real hardware and burn my own games. Fifth-gen emulation is far from perfect. Even if you go the POPstarter method with a softmodded PS2, some games just won't work.

Let's see. I could drop $1000 on a gaming rig with the minimum specs to run an emulator, or just play on real hardware for a fraction of the cost. If I'm feeling particularly naughty, I guess I could run my games on ePSXe or some other shitty "it just werks" emulator with my toaster oven.

Other honorable mentions - Tenchus, Bushido Blade, Alien Resurrection, Soul Reaver (better on the PC for load and graphics).

Havent tried but heard to check out - Vagrant Story, Arc the Lad.

Bored and want to try something - Twisted Metals, MegaMans, Wipeout, Silent Hill, Bushido Blade.

No I seriously want just want to get myself fucked up and play something tedious and circle strafe everything for days and definitely draw my own maps and wish I downloaded the manual, I fucking hate this shit and there's really no other psx game quite like it- King's Field series.

It literally doesn’t dude. I’ve played it on a toaster laptop years ago. No idea where you’re pulling this shit from, frankly I’m going to assume from your deepest anal chasm.

There’s nothing wrong with having real hardware but at least don’t try to pretend to know about shit you haven’t even tried. Any PC post-2007 can run Mednafen easily.

At least you ended your charade rather quickly. For those users that are unsure about Mednafen after the shitposter’s dribble, the recommended requirements are a dual-core Phenom II or Athlon II. That’s right, that’s recommended. Not minimum. So basically any PC with a Core2Duo or better can run Mednafen without issues.

Why not? Are you referring to Blood Omen? Because if you're referring to Soul Reaver the DC port is greatly overstated and the PC port is a travesty. And by this I don't mean the DC port doesn't perform much better or doesn't have visual upgrades, it's just that the game was originally developed on PS1 by CD, and as such it is the only platform with the most accurate presentation.

I originally wrote a much bigger post where I went into details for the actual differences but then phonepost is going to phonepost and I basically lost that wall of text, so fuck that noise I'm not writing it again.

Another vote for Croc here.

Did you guys know Croc was originally going to be a Nintendo game starring Yoshi that Core were working on for Nintendo?

But Nintendo dropped Core and said they weren't interested, only to turn around and use Core's ideas as a foundation for Mario 64?

Even Shigeru Myamoto himself tweeted an apology to Core devs years later, apologising for the shitty way they treated them.

Guru Larry did a vid on it. Top times Miyamoto fucked over other devs or something like that.

Not just LCD. Emu4crt popped up not too long ago, and it allows you to play mednafen at native resolutions (so silent hill switches from progressive to interlaced when you pause). Its not perfect; emulation halts for about an eighth of a second on each resolution change but to me that's a small price to pay for every Ps1 game playable on a HDD.

Of course you still need a way to get 15khz out of your rig but CRT Emudriver is easy to install and the cards you need for it can be found for less than 5 dollars on ebay.
