What's the most obscure retro title (if even just to the West) you've played?

Pixygarden, it's basically an aquarium-sim style game for the PSX. Has nice art and cute sprites. Not much to say about it. It's comfy.

Anyhow I'm not sure what the most obscure retro game I've played is. Captain Tomaday maybe? Or some Neo Geo puzzle game I guess. *Shrugs*

Does it? Huh. What about Acid? Rakugaki Showtime? Yaku Yuujou Dangi? Blue Legend of Water, Manic Game Girl, Yuuyami Doori Tankentai, The Note, Moonlight Syndrome,
Mad Stalker: Full Metal Force, etc?

Also Ganryu, Eight Man, Money Puzzle Exchanger, Ninja Commando,, Ragnagard, Battle Circuit, Armoured Warriors, Red Earth, Bang Bead, Kabuki Klash, and Voltage Fighter Gowcaiser are among the unheard of Neo Geo/arcade games I've played off the top of my head. Could probably think of some NES, SNES, and Genesis games too but I'm not sure if any of them are unplayed here considering everybody and their mother has the full libraries downloaded.

/vr/ has had a bad backlash against the "hidden gemmers" and has a dick waving contest every time something similar is brought up. I get it, but metal max isn't a very well known series, but everyone is right saying returns is the most known one. Which is fucking hilarious in a way because saga was localized.

>> No.4387040

I play obscure games all the time thanks to emulation. Though not that obscure, I've been playing the arcade version of Tatsujin Oh (Truxton 2) lately, one coin try there each day, as well as some other Toaplan games.

For some reason I don't see that much discussion of these titles, not even in dedicated communities. Oh well, I like their mechanics.

Honestly, I don't see much of a point to this thread since it's hard to exactly quantify how "obscure" a game is or not, it's prone to derailment.

To me, it's fun because you can really customize the shit out of your tanks. Especially once you start getting a good cash flow going. Defeating the first boss and getting out of the starting area felt like a huge achievement to me, and the weird world drew me in. I was always excited to see what the next area would be like, what the next bounties were gonna be, donating money to places and bugs to see what would happen, etc. etc. Plus the overworld theme rules when you're riding a tank.

It depends on in what way you mean "obscure" by. Everything in the age of emulation is easy to play... unless it isn't. Like in the case of Tiger LCD games, which WEREN'T obscure in their time, but ARE obscure now.

Then you have other games that are obscure in the sense of "virtually nobody's heard of them", the most obscure of which would be any of the countless lost PC games and Japanese computer games that might not even exist anymore.

Individual LCD games could be pretty obscure. They were well known in general, but there were fifty billion different ones and it was common enough to see some one with a game nobody you knew had a clue existed.
