Soul Blazer, Illusion of Gaia, Terranigma

Is there any reason these have yet to be released on any of Nintendo's virtual consoles? They are solid RPGs afterall.

Dunno why they're not, but they should be. I played the hell out of SB and IoG; didn't discover Terranigma until a few years ago, then proceeded to play the shit out of it. Great series!

>> No.4384994

I'm guessing squeenix wants you to forget they ever existed.

>> No.4385679

Probably some licensing issue. They were developed by Quintet and published by Enix. Squeenix may not have rights to them anymore. Great series though.

Soulblazer>Terranigma>Ilusion of Gaia

Blazer has the best combat and pacing.
Terranigma has the best world to explore with the best music and eyecandy.
Gaia is mediocre at best.

I would too if I'd vomited up three pieces of trash like those and dared to call them "games".

Terranigma is probably the best game, but I love Gaia. Probably just nostalgia but I liked the characters and story. Plus I loved the idea of travelling to real world locations like the Great Wall, Pyramids etc.

Is Terranigma worth playing?

I really enjoyed soul Blazer, it reminds me of Dungeon Explorer. However, I couldn't stand Illusion of Gaia, felt like a 3rd-rate Zelda clone

Soul Blazer feels like meele Gauntlet to me, which is really fun.

Gaia is kinda pathetic, but definitely decent. I like the story, just because it's very weird.

Yes, Terranigma is worth playing. The controls are really nice and the story is pretty good.

Blazer is the worst of the bunch. Gaia has amazing characters and locations, Terranigma has a great story and fluid gameplay. Blazer on the other hand has clunky repetitive gameplay, boring characters and a forgettable story. Literally not a single good aspect.

>repetitive gameplay
They all do. But Soul Blazer is actually fun and has the music to go with.

Terranigma, hands down.

I enjoyed it more than the other 2.

Sure it is. It's not a great game but it's definitely a good one.

>> No.4389952

Its considered by most to be a trilogy although a loosely linked one. Blazer is even mentioned in Illusion of Gaia.

He might've been talking about Granstream Saga

>> No.4389975

Terranigma also feels like a third-rate Zelda clone. Pretty graphics are all that game has going for it. The soundtrack, while being quite good on its own, is simply spread too thin for the amount of game content it has to cover and thus lacks staying power.

I think Terranigma has more in common with Soul Blazer than with Illusion of Gaia. Anyway, yes, it's worth a play.
>>4389952
>Blazer is even mentioned in Illusion of Gaia.
Really? When? I remember the dog, and some enemies with similar designs, but nothing as explicit as that. Must have missed it.

>The couple scene from Soul Blazer is referenced in Freejia in Illusion of Gaia
>Metal Mantis/Solid Arm from Soul Blazer appears as Gem in Illusion of Gaia
>The spirit enemy from Soul Blazer resembles Moon Tribe members
>Solid Arm literally states Will reminds him of Blazer
>Ark resurrects Mu in Terranigma
>Terranigma is called Illusion of Gaia's sequel IN-GAME

>The Master is Light Gaia and Deathtoll is Dark Gaia

I think Dr. Leo's lab makes a reappearance in Terranigma too at the end.

Gaia has the best bosses. And probably the best dungeons too.
And had the best balance, which is a shame no other game in the genre copies it.
Also one can say it has the best graphics. Personally I can't decide between it and Terranigma in this case.

Yeah, Deathtoll lives in the northern lights while also being a wandering comet which comes in contact with earth every few thousand years while ALSO being the very core of earth itself.

The writers have already addressed this topic, read what they have to say instead of believing nonsense.

>Ark resurrects Mu in Terranigma
Mu is like Japanese Atlantis, it shows up in a lot of stories about lost continents and magical islands.
>>4390232
>Starting with ActRaiser, and followed by Soul Blazer and Illusion of Gaia, the games are definitely connected, in Miyazaki-san's mind, at least. [...] I don't know about Terranigma though.
Well, I'm surprised to read that. I always thought IoG was the odd sibling in the "series". ActRaiser, Soul Blazer, and Terranigma share this theme of creating the world and guiding its development until it's mature enough to fend for itself. Illusion of Gaia also touches that theme, specially during the ending, but the game's emotional weight is on Will's personal journey.

As much as I'd like that, it wouldn't feel right with the original composer being dead.

>> No.4392450

Dunno. First one is by far the best. IOG is objective crap, and Terranigma is flawed and a chore to play through.

Soul Blazer has addicting, tight gameplay that the others are missing.

I don't even remember what happened in SB, it was so bloody repetitive and boring, especially the monster hole grinding. I do remember it being so buggy that attacking to the side made you hit twice, apparently QA wasn't exactly a priority, and it shows everywhere.

i mean msu-1 can be a fun novelty for a play through of a game you've beaten 1000 times.
