when will people get over their nostalgia for the fifth generation and realize that it was actually pretty bad?

when will faggots get over their compulsion to shitpost on /vr/ and realize that they're wasting their fucking time?

Saturn and N64 are cool for being unique, the PS1 is awesome for the new culture it created around games (and bringing Daddy Kojima to the world anew) and all three consoles are incredibly interesting case studies.

the PS1 indirectly ruined games though

I disagree and honestly don't see how you could think that other than it turning them more mainstream or making them able to incorporate more mature and/or adult themes (which led to the gaming renaissance imo.)

But third party devs are and always have produced the best games and the most popular game series. Nintendo and Sega had a lot of first-party games, but the vast majority of "reccomended games" you will see on most lists are third-party, even in the earlier gens.

there are always some outliers like core design, konami, rare, etc, but the VAST majority of games on those systems (especially the ps1 with its close to 6000 games) are total garbage cranked out by some obscure company to cash in on the 3D craze. don't get me wrong, i totally understand being nostalgic for trash, maybe more than most people, but you don't see me going around claiming that it's objectively good these days

I agree, but i can see the other guys point.

Its because the playstation did push gaming into the mainstream. Thats why we have the dulled down games if today. All of the entertainment industry has been dumbed down and gaming just happened to be apart of that bandwagon.

well at least games will always be different from other entertainment in that it isn't just a few companies running the show. sure there are your AAA games but those are easily ignored

Yes, the psx was bad and had only very few things I would consider games. The saturn had for it's time pretty good games and the n64 has still very good games. I am not sure what your standard for gaming is, but there are good games on saturn. I do agree that it was a step down from snes as everyone tried to reinvent gaming. But it wasn't bad. You sound like bad graphics mean bad games. I consider current and last gen the worst on the planet. With all it's stupid marketing gimmicks.
The only thing we can agree on is that PC gaming never let us down thanks to backwards compability...

>(especially the ps1 with its close to 6000 games)
Wikipedia lists 2513 games total in all regions and about 1500 released in the US

i don't have a problem with bad graphics at all, i actually find early 3D to be pretty charming. my problem is clunky gameplay, which is the reason why NiGHTS into dreams has aged so well whereas something like tomb raider hasn't

I can't find a proper quote on that 1500 games released on the US either, seems to be based on serial numbers.
