What are vr's thoughts on these games?

I replay them every year, sometimes even more often. That means I have played both games at least 20 times by now. I only play Blue, Gold, and Crystal versions though. I did play through a translated Green version ROM just to see what it was like, but that doesn't really count.

>genwun
bad but I like them anyway

>gen 2
good and I like them

The "modern" Pokémon games are a complete mixed bag though, I really wish GF flopped when making Pokémon and go out of business like they deserve. Lazy pieces of garbage.

They're great ways to obtain good monsters to use on Pokemon Stadium games

I find gen 1 a bit harder to go back to but that's just because I happened to play gen 2 before it and got used to its technical improvements. I still like red and blue well enough, and yellow is cool since you can just dump off pikachu in the PC.
Crystal is my go-to for a relaxing time but I misplaced my physical copy a few years ago and still haven't found it. Feels bad. I've got Heart Gold on DS to fill the void but it's just not the same even though I do like it quite a bit.

I like gen 1

Really fun to play challenges and/or randomized on both gens. I also like to play fast or bingo of gen1.

Gen 1 just feels obsolete. There's very little reason to play them in the year 2004+ other than for nostalgic reasons. Gen 2 is just a better retro pokemon game, and the remakes have deeper mechanics and QOL improvements (running, register button, good box system, move descriptions, ect)
I don't think gen 1 is 'bad'. The core pokemon template is still more fun than most turn-based RPGs.

As for gen 2, the DS remakes were very good, but the originals are polished enough and fixed enough gen 1 bullshit that I would still recommend playing them.

>Best in hindsight
Gen 3

>Best because goddamn they actually pulled THAT off?!
Gen 2

>Best for starting everything and for "taking me back"
Gen 1

Gen 4+ was a mistake.

I dunno, Mainline Pokemon in Actual 3D sounded kind of cool to me. And hey, if it weren't for Gen IV we'd be without HG/SS, so there's that.

It utterly baffles me how they still have a fanbase after the bullshit of Gen VI, though.

Gen 1 is fun in a stupid way. It's full of bugs, balance problems, and bizarre design decisions, but those things give gen 1 a certain charm.

Gen 2 is the Pokemon formula perfected. It fixed all the problems in gen 1 while making major improvements to the mechanics as well as a ton of general quality-of-life enhancements. On top of that, it had a fuckload of content and a real postgame.

There's no point playing any of the games past gen 2, because it's all the same thing with a few added gimmicks of questionable value and increasingly uninspired designs.

Gen 4 is a mistake, but gen V was really good, probably the best in the series.

What an odd opinion. A pity I can't ask for more detail.

Gen III was ridiculously expensive if you wanted to catch them all and started a lot of pokemon's current problems.
>>4368573
Gen V had the ugliest battle animations in the series.

Only played gen 1 and 2 and 7. Not sure if I care about the later Masuda directed games post gen 2.

Anyway seems Gold and Silver link up to USUM. So I hope there's some johto pandering.

I agree it sucks that they wont make any more actual console games because the 3DS can do 3d models.

Gen 3's expensive quality I think may be because GF thought they could actually rig GSC to communicate with a GBA. R/S was developed really early after all.
