Daily reminder that 5his game isn't as good as everyone preeches.

1. Come on Nintendo, did you realy expect kids to read the manual?

2. Oh here we go, yeah just put random secret shit on random tiles so exciting.

3. No idea how to balance a game even after mario.

You talk like such and underage that it's ridiculous. Zelda 1 was in fact a phenomenal experience on release. The only major flaws it has is how limited and clunky the combats/enemies can be at times (something which was greatly improved in Zelda 2, the most underrated game in the series, comparatively). Manuals used to be great, even in the PS2 era (although less so than before).

These days, the only thing you'll find in a game box is a safety warning and a flyer. It's sad, really. Some of the manuals did used to be excessive (who needs a 100-page booklet in 5 different languages and 20 pages of 'notes'?), but still, they're better than the waste paper we get now.

>>4368725
An 8-bit sprite wasn't really able to convey the type of character it was supposed to represent, so manuals often had some artwork to remedy this, help your imagination a bit. Furthermore, games for the 8-bit era didn't often have extra space for long segments of tutorial text. Plus, it was a rudimentary anti-piracy measure of sorts ('if you don't own the physical box, you can't play our game').

That's what we did back in the day if we could. Manuals, guidebooks, word of mouth. We didn't have the internet.

I'm not really understanding what your goal is here, and why you are even on a retro game board to begin with if the idea of reading a manual chaps your ass so much that you feel like you need to come onto a retro games board telling everyone else they're an idiot for being okay with something that isn't any skin off your ass since this stuff is no longer being done.

First,
>chaps your ass
>isn't any skin off your ass
I understand you have an ass obsession, but stay away from mine.
Second, manuals shouldnt be needed to play a game. I get some games need that, and those are bad games. I get manuals from a collector's standpoint, but not from a gaming standpoint.
