Hey guys, I've been reading up on playing NA region games on a Japanese Super Famicom, and I know the hacking apart the console is a bad idea. So, what is the /vr/ approved adapter/converter to buy?

Preferably not too expensive.

Take the top off the console.

The SNES looks so much worse than SFC though...

What worthwhile games weren't released in Japan?

This doesn't work for some games though right? IE the ones that are locked to 50hz. Is there a list of way to see which ones work?

Honestly, it's gonna be cheapest and easiest to get solution to your problem.

really? ;_;

i found a good deal on a SFC near me, and it comes with Secret of Mana and Chrono Trigger (both japanese carts). So I was planning to pick that up and then see if I could play some SNES games on it too.

game genie, playing the games without a case, taking the SNES cover off, or chopping up the Famicom. Pick your poison.

Thanks for helping me. What do you think about one of these?

Just skip through the video its rather long, it seems to work ok.

I guess. I was thinking "cheapest option available" but if you want to drop the cash for it it seems fine.

The cheapest plug-in adapter at this point is actually the Nakitek Game Saver.
The simpler pass-through adapters like Honey Bee are more expensive these days.

Mkay, thanks. I'll try find a Game Genie around to tear apart or order one of those.

I'm curious though. If the adapter has no circuitry in it and is simply connecting pins, how is it preventing the anti-piracy messages from occurring? Am I wrong and the adapter is also converting PAL to NTSC (50hz to 60hz)? I'm assuming the piracy messages would appear if you simply tore apart the SFC to fit the SNES cart, right? (IE, Earthbound and Donkey Kong 2 would be unplayable).

>>4367456
Thanks. Looks like those are around $20. Will this also bypass the anti-piracy measures in games like Earthbound?

>> No.4367636

>>4367468
Why would you buy Earthbound? Get Mother 2 or a SFC flash cart.

Dont butch a good Super Famicom just cause you wanna play "modder''.

Just play US games using a Flashcart.

That's PAL. Japan uses NSTC just like the US, there will never be an issue playing games between the two consoles.

Sorry I think I've gotten confused. I guess I just need a game genie or something to fit the games into the console and they'll work?

The console is a Japanese SFC.

>> No.4371368

>>4370919
Japanese and American games are identical only the cases are physically different. Japanese games fit in American SNES consoles with just a couple tabs being pulled out but the cart slot in a Japanese Super Famicom console is narrower which is slightly more of a problem but only slightly. Get a Game Genie. It's not clear where you are but if SNES Game Genie is cheaper just buy one of those and hack the corners off its case so it goes in the slot. Until then just play with the top off if you want to use US games.

>> No.4371476

>>4371368
Ahhh ok thanks. So the only issue would be if I tried to run Europe games. Good to know. I'll try find a Game Genie or order that thing I posted earlier in the thread here >>4367437

Again, apologies for being so out of the loop on all this.

I took a pair of small plyers from a drawer and just pulled the tabs right out the fucking thing I'm the American version. After that, I plopped in the Japanese games and they ran fine.

I hear that doesn't work when putting in Japanese games with the 3DFX chip into the American one, but that's a very small amount of games that you can honestly skip or get the Japan version

Sounds good! The main game I want to play is Secret of Mana (in English rather than Japanese) so I'm gonna find a thing to let me do that. I've been looking forward to playing it a lot.

Maybe if I can't find a Game Genie I'll buy one of these: https://krikzz.com/store/home/13-super-everdrive-v2.html
