Do you collect old gaming magazines?

>> No.4367016

>>4367012
I used too but threw them all out when it was getting to the point that moving 20 50lb boxes of magazines wasn't worth it to just find one article.

>> No.4367019

I collected PSM but after retro. I have every issue from 2004-2008 when they sold out to Sony

>> No.4367052

>>4367012
If by "collect" you mean "still have stacks and stacks of old magazines from subscriptions back in the day", then yes.

I think if somebody were actually going out of their way to make a new collection of retro game magazines today they would be mentally handicapped.

>> No.4367054

No, but I almost wish I did. They're cool. I remember buying a bunch of Nintendo magazines as a kid but I think I've lost all but one to the winds of time. It's funny to read letters and articles refer to LttP as "Zelda 3" and wondering when the rumoured Zelda 4 will grace our super nintendos

>> No.4367081

I had subscriptions and kept those magazines but I threw away all the coverless "field destroyed" ones when I moved. Mostly Game Informers

>> No.4367095

No. In my whole life I've maybe bought one or two individual magazines. Never had a subscription.

In practice they are glorified sales catalogs, but reading archived copies is an interesting way to understand the era.

>> No.4367098

Not anymore, too much space and archive.org is doing a nice job of saving many of them

>> No.4367158

>>4367012
No. I use to buy them as a kid, but I don't collect them. I would buy game magazines such as The Official Dreamcast Magazine, The Official Playstation Magazine, Game Pro, Game Informer, Electronic Gaming Monthly, DCM, PSM and some other magazines. I stopped buying magazines once I owned a computer and had internet access.

>> No.4368765

I'd rather collect old porno magazines but that's mainly because people these days don't appreciate a nice bush.

I just kept most what I got, but I don't collect. I did get rid of the first two years of Nintendo Power. Even destroyed the few random issues of GamePro and Video Games & Computer Entertainment I had. Fortunately I kept a lot of the other odd magazines I liked/subscribed to.

Sure it is easy to just get the magazine scans now, but I was willing to bring them with me as it is nice to flip through the pages and read the actual magazine.

This magazine is pretty colorful but took pictures from composite sources, was not afraid of having images of the adult parts of adult games, and focused on fighting games and anime games. Introduced me to Darkstalkers and the arcade Aliens Vs. Predator, had foldout combo examples for Ranma Tyougi Ranbuhen, informed me of the locations of Nintendo Powerfest '94, etc. and I wished the magazine survived because it was pretty cool. I can post more game magazines, or will that be too annoying?

>> No.4369231

I only have what I actually bought in the 90's.
which is like 100 magazines.

They weight too much to collect and get destroyed too easily.

Also nobody sells them dirt cheap. its usually like 5 for 20.00 or some shit. fuck that

This would have been cute if it was written by a kid in the early 90's, but emulators exist my man, and if you don't use them and just day dream instead about overpriced plastic, you're a fucking faggot

I guess it was my fault for wording that wrong, as that is how I used to do with the magazines. I do rely on emulation and flashcarts (if I can afford them) now. I also have some actual cartridges/CDs as well, and most come from what I happen to have kept so I have memories tied to them. I know all too well that I still cannot afford a lot of the games now, but I do like playing/having the real things. I would still daydream that I'd be rich enough to comfortably have a huge room full of arcade cabinets even though I can already emulate them.

I also cannot afford another sharpie and more paper at the moment, so I will reuse the same sheet.

Thanks, I think you're just encouraging my hoarding.

Yeah, the Japanese games they'd show off in their international sections of EGM got me to subscribe to their quarterly spinoff magazine all about Japanese games. Unfortunately, it ran for its 4 issues with the last one just a copy of what was already in their main magazine's international section plus a couple extra pages in new content. I was not happy at the time, as I did like the first 3 issues here.

I do remember Playstation Underground discs which had demos and videos.

I've downloaded quite a few of the PDFs of a lot of old magazines. While the colors may not be accurate or the scan quality may not be high, I don't think all of just the ones in the US will even fill a CD-ROM. However, there are so many from Japan with lots of pages, that maybe all of them can span maybe a couple DVD-ROMs.

There's no point to it. I mean, why collect it in that case? You'll just have something that's worth less than what you paid for it and will remain so. Just fucking read a pdf of it or something. Don't take it off the market just to feed your own selfish need. Nothing hurts collecting more than collectible stuff just vanishing into the hands of hoarders who can't part with their treasures at a good price.
