holy crap that's more than it cost when it was released.

>> No.4356902

Are you a collector? If not, then there are cheaper ways to get a working SNES or Super Famicom. Considering you have to ask whether or not it is worth it, you'll probably find yourself wondering why you paid a premium for packaging materials and not put the extra towards more games.

>>4356892
Super Famicoms are about $15 on eBay, do you really need a box to throw out?

>> No.4356905

>>4356892
Well considering it's most likely been opened that's not worth it at all. Future value of it is shaky, if it were sealed it would only appreciate, but you can buy the console, the game and the box for less than $200 if you do it piece by piece. The plastic wrap is literally trash if it's not factory sealed.

This is "untested", with no controllers or cables.

If I only had the two options, I would go with OP's $200 bundle because at least I'm confident it works.

Not trying to shit on you, but I see this misleading shit on here a lot "Just get a Wii* for $15 you idiot"

>> No.4358209

>>4357270
I'm not being misleading at all, Super Famicoms don't really break, it's one of the most reliable consoles of all time. A PSU, AV Cable and Controller, if OP doesn't have some already, would be like an extra $30 tops. Buying untested on eBay is the intelligent choice for retro shit.
Also you're a fool if you think a Wii with controllers, sensor bar, and PSU is more than $15. I buy Wiis at thrift stores all the time and everything is included for that price. Sounds like you're the misleading one, friend.
>>4357309
The emulators have all been updated since 2012 when you last tried them, the Wii is an excellent emulation box for 8, and 16-bit consoles. If you don't know something (or only know what you've seen on YouTube videos), it's better to say nothing than make shit up.

Yellow SNES are great. It means they're the very early models, and the yellowness have a certain charm to it, like the yellowed pages of an old book.

I have a small question. Is the Super Famicom region locked unlike the Super Nintendo? I remember hearing about that the SFC has a lockout chip inside it. Is it true or is it with the case only and you have to remove plastic tabs?

>> No.4358489

If you're a hardwarefag just get a SNES Jr and cut the tab so it can play SFC carts

>> No.4358524

>>4358489
Same can be done with a regular SNES

>> No.4358530

>>4358485
The cartridge shells are a different shape, but the board inside are the same. The SNES can play SuFami games by removing the plastic tabs that prevent the cart from fitting in. However, to use a SNES game on a SuFami, you need to take off the shell, or buy an adapter, since the SFC carts are significantly thinner / smaller than the SNES ones.

tldr; boards are the same inside the cart shell, there's no lockout between US/JP. PAL games won't work on non-PAL systems.

Nah. Both need the base to play SuFami turbo games.

Anon is pointing out how wrong it is to refer to the SFC as "SuFami" because of the Bandai Sufami Turbo. If you're the guy he's replying to, you're supposed to have been resourceful enough to catch the hint, and by now you would already know what "the base" refers to.

I've never seen a complete Wii where I'm at for $15. Just the system is $15-25.

Not every place in the world is going to have the same, well below market value prices at their thrift stores...

I guess you're the guy on here that shits on retropie people for not just going to your town to buy a used Wii for $15.

>Buying untested on eBay is the intelligent choice for retro shit.

I think we'll have to disagree on this one haha. I used to be a professional ebay seller (not games) and knew many people in my area who would use the "untested" loophole to sell shit from the community that was broken without saying it was broken. From my experience, 80% of it is broken.

I'm sure a lot of it is easy fixes, but I would rather just spend a bit more to get something that works out of the box. Costs significantly more for me if I factor in my time to buy the cheap broken one that needs to be fixed than one that works out of the box.
