Why does this connector make yanks so mad?

>> No.4342336

Well to be honest the connector itself is in fact pretty shitty with how big and bulky it is.
I mean, it was designed by the french so what else would you expect.
The fact that it can carry a wide range of signals, especially component and rgb is pretty nice though.

>> No.4342337

Because we need a hard to find professional monitor or $80 good component transcoder to take advantage of that expensive shit

Our ps1 growing up was chipped and I played through some NTSC games in black and white or had to take them to my grandmas house as her TV was PAL60. They where not that uncommon.

Because Euros conflate the connector itself with some kind of inherent superiority, ignoring the fact that RGB output is achievable via other means, and pretending that half the time they aren't just sending composite over the same thing and thinking it's better because they're technologically illiterate.

It doesn't. SCART was almost never used for consumer TV sets in America, and the only sets that would ever have them were high-end. That's just the way it is, just like how all those European countries use different electrical outlets.

1. Importing pre-5th gen games meant jack shit because refresh rate was a hardware toggle.

2. PS1 (the only relevant console as far as yurop was concerned) was stupidly easy moddable and could run pirated copies of 60hz games.

So yeah, if you know who to talk to you could blast 60hz games in the 90s across europe. Know what you're talking about before embarrassing yourself.

>> No.4343946

>>4343921

you are the dumb one here because the whole discussion here is about the pre-5th gen games, because when the PS1 arrived, all TV companies already were making their TVs with both systems PAL/NTSC. So you are pretty much skipping the whole Nintendo consoles just to not look like a fucking idiot.

>> No.4343981

>>4343946
European TVs supported 60Hz since the mid to late 80s, and it has as nothing to do with proper NTSC support, because, as everybody mentioned, RGB could grant you full color definition at any refresh rate. I.e. dudes with modded consoles could play SNES and MD games at 60hz, the latter much more easily than the former. But still, most Japanese games were imported like it was nothing back then.

Wrong. I don't know about other consoles, but for the Mega Drive/Genesis, we can just mod our console, or use the JP/US console and most PAL cartridges will work exactly the same as the NTSC ones.

The only real reason to buy non-PAL games if you live in a PAL region is if they are JP/US exclusives. But the reverse is true for people from NTSC regions who want to play PAL exclusive games.
