Would this be regarded as the best of the trilogy if Dixie Kong were partnered with Donkey instead of Kiddy?

>> No.4336925

No because people would still bitch about the music and the gimmicks

>> No.4336936

Nope. Still a good game, still the worst of the 3.

It actually is the best but anons can't stop jerking off over two long enough to realize this

Really, anon?

Every single person that played both 2 and 3 would side with 3, except that in reality they jerk off every single time they think to compare the two and that somehow skews their opinion?

All these years later, my jimmies are still rustled by the top 100 games ever list that Nintendo Power 100 did. It listed DKC3 as 23, DKC2 at 33, and DKC1 at 39. What a fuckup.

If you compare 1 and 3 it's obvious that Donkey handles much worse than Kiddy. Whiners would still whine but they'd have a slightly different reason.

Solid games, all three of them.

Eh, I honestly think the first one is the only really good one. The second one has wayyy too many hitbox issues

DKC games have generous hitboxes. You literally touch one pixel of an enemy in SMW and you're dead.

3 is harder than 2 with some of its bullshit levels. Basically 2 was hard but fairly hard. 3 was just cheaply hard at times.

Kiddy being a baby isn't a strong enough point to hate on the game.
Honestly I've never understood the hate this game gets.
It's still DKC, it has lots of collectibles, way more secrets than DKC2 and more interesting, a real sense of discovery and progression and fun boss battles and level gimmicks.

Honestly this game is as good as the others.

Only the US version though. PAL is best because there's never any slowdown compared to that version. Don't know about JP but that didn't suffer any lag either if I remember correctly.

>> No.4337224

>>4337201
I'm like 95% some emulators make it much laggier than it should be. If I play on Snes9x I get slowdown at weird spots, but if I play on my real SNES it's silky smooth even with more stuff on the screen.

There's only one USA version, right? They didn't release a bugfix or anything?

>> No.4337228

>>4337224
From what I understood, there's one NTSC US version, one PAL version and two japanese versions. Although it's true that Snes9X has a stuttering framerate on the visual side especially when you compare it to the VC releases or on console it's still true that the US has more instances of lag. For example, at the second bonus in the final level of world 2 or in that cave level in world 6 where you ride with most of the animal buddies, right where you need to get the last bonus barrel it lags like CRAZY because of an enemy that keeps throwing several bombs at a time. In both the JP and PAL versions, they replaced that with a green bee for that reason.

Despite the lag, US is still preferred for doing 103% speedruns because you can use several glitches to beat everything faster. Any% on the other hand uses the JP versions because of a glitch with Bleak where you can start and select right after getting hit and finish him earlier but you won't get the bonus coin that way.

DKC 1 is the only entry that lets you play as the main chimp himself, Donkey Kong. Features some of the smartest stage design in the trilogy, with levels such as the stop and go barrels, and the factory stage that goes dark. Only flaw is the snow world needed a closer save point near the beginning of its map.

DKC 2 has the best soundtrack, which is saying a lot considering how good the music in all three games are. Both the playable characters—Diddy and Dixie—are fun. Game is blessed with great stage design, and offers the best challenge of the trilogy.

DKC 3 is an adventure game with platforming elements. You swim across maps and hunt for secret areas and hidden items to unlock new locations. Game has the cutest set of animal buddies, and its more basic stage designs are great for easing casual gamers into the series.

Of course, these are just my opinions.

Shame that anons argue so much over the DKC trilogy, when in truth, we all should all be celebrating what a fun time it was to be gaming during the 16-bit era.

I had lag on the snes mini (using nintendo's clover emulator). On the level with those barrels on the waterfall you have to keep jumping to get higher. Pretty sure this happened on other emulators.

Faceball 2000 made the list, and is a better game than Breath of Fire, Dragon Warrior, Illusion of Gaia, Bust a Move, Ultima, and Final Fight.

The only things different about it are the additional world Pacifica and the different soundtrack but honestly, they don't hold up as well as the original music and levels. The only track in the GBA version that I really liked was the remix of Aquatic Ambiance and that's because it already was one of the best songs in the DKC trilogy before Wise remixed it.
I'd say, get the rom and try it out for yourself. Maybe you'll like it enough and can go get the GBA version. It shouldn't be too expensive.

GBA version has an issue with the screen height. You can't see above you all that well, which is an issue because many of the levels scroll vertically. So you'll often bump into enemies that pop up on the screen at the very last second.

Take the Hero coins for example.
At first, making an enemy who uses a hero coin as a shield sounds pretty neat, and it's fun figuring out the unique ways to beat him with your limited moveset.
There's only so many different ways to beat him though, and they use him for every single level. And since there's so much to set up in order to beat him in even the simplest ways, there are limits to how creatively they can hide the hero coins in each level
