Why the 3DO is so forgotten?

Good hardware AND good games.

Best version of Wing commander 3, Need for speed, Road Rash, FIFA, MADDEN, SSF2X...

Best FMV than Saturn..

Shitty console like Virtual boy and Jaguar are collecting more nostalgiafags, what the fuck?

not really, and most of the games were available on almost every other system at the time.

Basically because as a platform that wasn't tied to software markup, it was very expensive and never got the installed user base before Playstation came along. The only reason it wasn't a complete joke like Ouya was because it was still cheaper than a gaming computer

3DO had one good game and it involved Kirk Cameron

>Why the 3DO is so forgotten?
Almost everyone stuck with their SNES or Genesis til the PSX arrived.

>Good hardware
Yes, for 1993, a transitional period which meant poor 2D AND poor 3D performance.

>good games
They aren't terrible for the most part.

>Best version of Wing commander 3
Sure

>Need for speed
Shit framerate compared to PSX or SS, the speed of driving is slowed to hide this and it makes it feel like a different game altogether.

>Road Rash
Yeah, ok

>FIFA
>MADDEN
You best be trolling...

SSF2X...
Notoriously shitty port, only good for the CD music
You should have said Samurai Showdown which is a decent port though it is deprecated by its sequel not released on 3DO

>Best FMV than Saturn..
FMV is cancer and people only play FMV heavy games ironically or to virtue signal what a "hardcore gamer" they are.

>Shitty console like Virtual boy and Jaguar are collecting more nostalgiafags, what the fuck?
VB has the Nintendo cult (similar to Apple cult) and people only know the Jag exists thanks to AVGN.

Because hardly anyone owned one.

To be fair, it was better than CDI and Jaguar but that ain't saying much. Also, $700

— In '91-'92, even RJ Mical and Dave Needle didn't know what games would become in three years.
— Hardware was new, complex, expensive (both console and Mac development kit), and also liable to forward compatibility with would-be peripherals and even future upgrades.
— Software (boot loader, multitasking OS, high level libraries) matched the hardware. 3DO API was actively bolstered and rearranged post-release (pic related).
> 3DO Portfolio, the 3DO operating system, makes programming for the 3DO system easier, faster, and more robust. Portfolio lets you interface to the 3DO hardware in a more abstract manner than is usually the case on competing products like Sega and Nintendo. This extra level of abstraction enables multiple hardware vendors to supply radically different implementations of the 3DO standard, yet continue to run all existing software titles.
— This flexibility allowed the team to update the hardware until just before the release — at the expense of software developers' brain cells. However, post-release upgrades, including fuse of two separate chips into one, were really backwards-compatible (if we leave out missing MIDI music in Road Rash on Anvil FZ-10).
— Most of the good, polished games were made by EA/3DO team or with the supervision of EA. That's not quite "open third-party development process".
— Fixed function quad texturing chip happened to be not flexible enough, and it hadn't enough performance to spare on hiding that fact with hacks and tricks (IIRC, its fill rate with medium distance geometry was only about 2x full screen size, that meant you had to render visible geometry only with very little overdraw to keep the speed). Better math co-processor and rendering accelerator working with lower level texturing primitives would probably produce better results. Video ghosts in Killing Time still kick ass, though.

In the end, it was a bit too Amiga-ish for the game console.

What emulator do you recommend? Where to get the ROMs?

It was expensive and the handful of good games on the 3DO were on other systems.

I've played Family Feud on the 3DO and it's a good version of the game, but Family Feud is on a number of other systems too.

There are a few gems here and there like Killing Time.
