the draw distance straight ahead into the screen is really fucking close
but the fact that saves NiGHTS is that it's a side-view game anyway, it has no real reason to draw that far in the Z axis

as someone developing a Saturn game right fucking now: you're retarded.
>Saturn doesn't do T&L in hardware (yes, there's the SCU-DSP that you could program to do it, no, most games don't bother with it, Sega's own docs say something along the lines of "if it takes an hour to write in assembly, it'll take the whole fucking day to write it for the DSP")

it shit all over everything at home but the PS1 in 1994, but the competition beyond that was the fucking Jaguar and 3DO
it's not as hopeless as a lot of earlier games lead you to believe (also, there's really few 3D Saturn games, and a lot of the direct comparisons are of somewhat poor ports), but it's still a total uphill battle
the one Saturn game that looks properly competitive graphically against the PS1 is fucking Sonic R, but Traveller's Tales were a bunch of demosceners anyway IIRC
