So I've been trying to burn some games for my Dreamcast but none of them will work for some reason. My Dreamcast has a circled 1 on the bottom so that shouldn't be an issue. I don't think it's a faulty burn either since I can boot the cds up in an emulator from my disc drive and they work just fine. The console plays real games and audio cds without an issue too so I doubt it's the laser but when I try to play the burned games they just spin in the console and the system acts like they don't even exist. It doesn't even mistake them for audio cds like I've seen some people have problems with.

I'm just about out of ideas at this point. I'm hoping that someone on /vr/ might be knowledgeable enough to have a clue of anything that can be done.

>> No.4328261

Have you tried a boot disc?

I think it’s called Utopia.

>> No.4328268

>>4328261
Yeah I have, but the rest of the games all self boot on the emulator so I don't think it's needed. Besides my utopia disc doesn't even start up on the actual console. The only thing that works are actual games. Is it possible that there exists revision 1 Dreamcasts that don't boot cd-r's? I've only ever heard about the issue from the revision 2 systems

>> No.4328270

Sounds to me like your discs aren't burned properly. Are you using discjuggler like you should be?

I know some newer applications work, but tried and true methods are usually safest.

Use higher quality media

>>4328270
I've been using imgburn with the cdi drivers but I'll give discjuggler a try.

Is it possible that the DEMUL emulator can boot the faulty cds when a real console couldn't? That's what's really getting me. They work fine in the emulator.

>>4328272
I've had 4 dreamcasts of different revisions and not once has any of my discs burned with juggler failed to read.

Shouldn't be an issue. 99% sure your issue just your discs being improperly burned.

Memorex not good enough?

>> No.4328323

You're not burning too slow are you? Don't fall for the slow burn meme, you want to burn at at least half the media's maximum rated speed for a quality burn. Max speed is usually fine, the discs are made for it.

Well shit, it worked
Thanks dude, I owe you. I guess I'll be sticking with discjuggler from now on.

Still find it kind of weird how the non-working discs could still be booted in an emulator. My guess is it has to do with my pc's disc drive probably being able to read the discs better than the dreamcast's drive

>>4328323
Unregistered discjuggler only goes up to 4x so I don't have too much of a choice

It's funny anon. Recently I've been getting chewed out on here for continuing to use discjuggler in preference to imgburn+extension.

Thing is it's always worked perfectly, even on supposedly sub-standard media. These days I exclusively use JVC/TY discs though, more for longevity than anything else.

There's no need to burn games when you could emulate. Sell your Dreamcast and save your money.

Dreamcast emulators are seriously shit. NullDC has way too many glitches and bugs, especially in games that push the Dreamcast to the limit, and Demul is very finicky and has a tendency to crash often.
The rest aren't even worth mentioning.

nulldc runs plenty of games good enough and doesn't need high-end specs to run though. it's only the more accurate demul that requires slightly more power.

But Demul is pretty much the only way to play lots of games, like any arcade game with naomi1/2, atomiswave, hikaru and gaelco hardware. You consolefags are okay buying a cheapass console, but not super expensive arcade hardware.

I'm not pretending anything, I'm simply being realistic. Your argument was simply be rich enough to own anything when you obviously don't own every arcade system made. So have fun playing those systems you don't actually own, while I'll be playing on the systems I own while emulating the ones I can't own.
