Using the Mew glitch in Pokemon generation 1... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JkF7Xjxn9jc
But rather than battling the kid with the Slowpoke, try battling some other trainers in the same way, and then activate the "Mew" glitch like you normally would. You can get some pretty decent pokemon in Cerulean City, like Cubone, Lapras, Nidoqueen, Gengar, and more.
What's more interesting, is you could actually do this with every trainer in the game if you wanted to, and get special pokemon. I haven't tested them all out, but I've done every trainer in Cerulean, and the trainers on the way to Lt. Surge. Yeah, there's a lot of junk, like low level Butterfrees, and Pidgeys, but you can find some pretty interesting pokemon by doing this. The main advantage is that it allows you to get pokemon that you would normally only be able to get by trading, and it also allows you to get pokemon earlier than you'd normally be able to.

There was a Super Mario Bros thread yesterday and a fact that blew my mind. in the 3rd stage of every world, if you get all the coins, that is what enables you to get the 1up in the next world, if you dont warp

Huh?

I know about the special coin levels, like if you beat 1-4 and get a lot of coins, it gives you a white toad house, and you get a p-wing.

Is that what you're talking about, or something different?

It has nothing to do with coins. Only if you warped or not.

If you don't warp, you have many potential 1-ups from collecting coins throughout each world.

If you do warp, you will have missed a lot of coins, thus missing many 1-ups, which would have made the game a little more challenging.

No, it does have to do with coins. The 1up appearing in the level is directly dependent on collecting all the coins in stage 3 of the previous world. that is, if you dont warp.

you still get it if you warp, because you bypass stage 3. but if you play stage 3, you MUST collect all the coins or the 1up to appear in the next world

Both Ridley encounters in Super Metroid can end in two ways.

In Ceres Station, Ridley will flee, nearly dropping the hatchling if his health gets critical. He will leave if your health gets critical. Speed runners deliberately hurt themselves here because it's much faster.
In Deep Norfair, you can continue to attack Ridley until he dies, alternatively if he grabs you whilst his health is critical instead he will self destruct. Speed runners take advantage of that too.

The metroids in Tourian actually can be killed with their signature ice weakness, a pair of power bombs will also dispatch them successfully, meaning the ice beam is in fact optional (as Tourian is concerned)

Not him, but who really cares about coins? You need 100 for them for a 1-up. Knowing where the hidden 1-ups are is a far more effective strategy.

You know what an even better strategy is though? Being good at the game. 1-ups are for people who die. Admittedly, some of them are fun to try to get if they're challenging though. But as for people actually NEEDING them, what they should be more focused on is mastering the physics, so that they don't need the 1-ups.

Even though they move back and forth, there is a pretty wide spot in front of them where can you stand and completely avoid them. That only really became a problem in SMB3, when the hammer bros. got wider, their hammers got bigger, and they threw them in a smaller arc.

The best thing to do (assuming you can't shoot them with fireballs) is run under them. Their jumps are timed very consistently.

There one really cheesy way to kill them: In the original SMB as long as Mario is falling he'll be able to stomp anything that he comes into contact with, even if he's not actually above it. You can abuse this against the Hammer Bros by waiting until they jump and then doing a short jump under them so that they fall on top of you while you're also falling.
