I know this is retarded, but am I the only one who legitimately enjoys playing shooters more on console? I don't know what it is; playing with a keyboard and mouse offers a lot more precision for sure, but it feels so... twitchy and uncomfortable. In some ways, the fact that a controller is less precise actually makes it more comfortable to use because it isn't so sensitive and you aren't holding your hands like claws. Not to mention you can actually sit back and relax. On top of that, like with most games, the feeling of being able to just pop the fucker into the console and not dealing with compatibility, resolution, graphics settings, etc. makes the experience feel so much more cohesive and inviting. I also think console shooters are a great means for bringing people together through splitscreen gameplay.

Pic related is Quake 2 on N64. When I play the game on PC, it absolutely bores me to death, but playing on it on N64 is a blast. I don't blame anyone who prefers playing shooters on PC, but I hate the stigma that console shooters are somehow automatically bad, as I can legitimately say I've had the most fun with them -- and this is coming from someone who played Quake 3 online for 15 years.

Depends on the game.

I don't like mouse controls in most FPSes. Some games do it really well though.

I just feel like the twitchiness and lack comfort is almost inescapable. You have to sit upright in the most uncomfortable position possible and press little chicklet buttons with your left hand while your right hand controls a hyper-sensitive pointing device. It's like playing a game with a cell phone keypad and a wiimote. With a controller, I can sit back in my chair, hands firmly gripping the controller in a very natural and ergonomic way, etc.

I understand what you're saying and I feel the same way, it's more comfortable and enjoyable to play FPS and most video games console style but that's probably part of why I suck at FPSs

you actually tried to turn that into a positive. if by "bringing people together" you mean provoking a ton of autistic arguments about whether or not checking other people's screens is cheating

This is meme shit that was said between friends purely in jest 99% of the time. Splitscreen shooters are great fun.

same here. I also believed the stigma and even thought about it was just me due to growing up with Goldeneye. Then I remember my first contact with vidya were pc games in school (Starcraft, jazz jackrabbit, Doom, Wolfenstein...)
I really can't have fun with fps on pc the same way I have with on consoles. It also feels awnkwardly easy. I had like 300h on SW Battlefront II on PS2, it was my favourite game back then, and I was hyped as fuck with the idea of online play when some friend installed it on my PC. I still remember how lame it feels to play that game on keyboard and mouse

Not gonna lie gramps, I usually think you're a giant faggot if not for simply using a trip, but this comment has sincerely improved my opinion of you.

>> No.4318904

Most PC shooter fans are literal autistics who will attempt to convince you that any game which does not require the use of a mouse is unplayable trash. The minute you bring up a console shooter and someone starts talking about "b-but muh controls", promptly discard their opinion and ignore them indefinitely.

Nah, I'm actually really good at shooters. I have a 40% rail in Q3A. I'm just mentally evolved enough to recognize that the practice of sitting in a comfortable chair and using a controller is far more enjoyable than sitting upright in a computer chair and moving a little plastic oval around. Let me know how that carpel tunnel works out for you.

The only reason to use a mouse and a keyboard is to be more accurate at shooting, but when everyone else you're playing against is using a controller the same as you and no matter how good you are you will still be ranked #456333 in the world, in the end I prefer comfort over accuracy. Give me a controller and a couch anyday, I spend 8 hours a day hunched over my computer at work, last thing I want to do is do it again at home.

Both sides have pros and cons but I enjoy them equally really. It depends on how I want to play.

Console shooters are more comfy but it’s also a lot slower because everyone is using a stick and can’t be very accurate, let alone twitch shot. I do get tired of sitting at my desk or on a laptop playing games though. It really just depends on how I wanna play at the time.

Seriously. I always loved playing games like C&C Renegade, Quake 3, Unreal Tournament, etc. back in the day, but then I played stuff like Perfect Dark and Timesplitters and thought to myself, "wow, the game isn't a continual seizure due to sensitive mouse controls and I can actually drink a beer while playing". I also find that console FPS games tend to have emphasis on certain mechanics/features that are absent in PC games that just make it a lot more fun.

>> No.4319783

>>4319771
Exactly my man. It feels a lot more immersive. PC shooters have nothing like this.

Good tastes. I know you're a patrician since you like PD, too. The absolute easiest way to tell if someone is a mindless retard is if they tell you PD sucks. If you haven't already, definitely check out the Quake games on N64 and Timesplitters: Future Perfect on 6th gen consoles (which was made by most of the same people as GE/PD), they're all fucking awesome.

>> No.4319791

>>4319783
I know you called me patrician, but If I'm gonna be honest with you, I hated PD's single player, but put like 50 hours in the multiplayer w/bots. I'm a lvl 11 veteran.

And the reverse is with GE. I played alot more single player than multiplayer.

Also, I didn't know TS was made by most of the same peeps as GE/PD. I'll have to get those.

agreed OP. the twitchiness and fast turning in PC shooters makes me physicially naseous. sitting hunched over in a chair aggravates fibromyalgia too. leaves you with a weak and unusuable back after so long.

sitting on a nice couch with a controller in hand more comfortable and a much more inviting style for gamers.

it's relaxing without the pressure you get in PC shooters.... that's how it should be. you just need to relax when you come home from work. no "competitive" over the top forced by dad to use a mouse to "compete"

computers are for posting on websites and work programs, not "hardcore" shooters with exclusionary control schemes

i feared stigmatization for saying this too until you posted this thread. thanks man. fuck the mouse and keyboard!

Everything the plebs are bitching about in this thread isn't a mouse and keyboard issue it's a bad desk chair issue. Stop sitting in a cheap staples office chair and then suddenly all of the "discomforts" of PC gaming disappear.

For fun? Sure, but mostly it sucks if you actually want to get into the game. Auto aim, etc, all shit.
Mouse controls for FPS are universally good. Consoles advantage is being comfy on the sofa and not even trying and letting auto aim do it for you.

i'm sorry that you're so out of shape and so hopeless that you can't find an average chair that isn't uncomfortable. and maybe you should start playing games with just 1 hand since you want games to have worse controls.

>> No.4320701

>>4318842
It depends. For classic shooters like Doom and Quake kb+m is the way to go as far as I'm concerned, it just feels right. Most modern shooters are made for controllers though and it just feels better in my opinion to use one, I much preferred using one for Bioshock and the new Doom. Kb+m is a necessity for competitive shooters but competitive shooters are a joke so who cares.
