What's the best way to get permanent marker off of cartridge labels without damaging them?

>> No.431638

Pencil eraser + licking your finger and rubbing it

>> No.431635

Goop O--

>labels

No idea.

>> No.431651

I've heard AXE is actually surprisingly good at getting permanent marker off cartridges and disks, but I dunno how well it'd work on a label.

>> No.431678

If you're trying to get it off a paper label you're pretty much screwed. More info? System/game, where on the label, etc? Give us a photo?

>> No.431689

OP here

I bought a copy of Beast Wars Transmetals on N64 and some motherfucker wrote his name real big on the back label. Such a bummer

>> No.431763

whiteboard marker might work if you're careful

>> No.431787

have you tried writing on them with a non permanenet marker and then erasing?

>> No.431865

>>431689
Ah. A fellow N64 collector? Do you have the box for that one yet? Good luck trying to find one that isn't the blockbuster exclusive one. Oh god, I probably paid much more than I should have on the one I got.

Don't even get me started on the instruction manual...

I was hoping to clean it up a bit, but the marker is going to be difficult.

I knew it was bad. I didn't want to do it.

If you don't mind replacing the entire back half of the cartridge with another game's, you could always do that. It will no longer be an authentic copy, but it would work.

of course you'll need that security screw bit

>Does this actually work?
It works on glossy surfaces. The dry erase marker binds to the permanent marker and you can wipe it away. You should probably try it with a very small dot to see if you can wipe off the dry erase marker first

>> No.432056

>>432024
If nothing else works, I'll go that route.
I'll post results soon

I mean, considering you could get a copy of Madden 94 for less than a dollar, it would be the quickest, safest, and most effective way of cleaning it up. You could even go around hunting for the cheap sports games that have matching release prints in the back label. Nobody would be the wiser.

>> No.432070

>>431919

Just replace the back with the back of a cleaner sports game. I do it with SNES games.

>> No.432096

>>432056

Do try the rubbing alcohol after testing to see if it will mess with the label. I have had successes with a variety of labels and surfaces using this.

I shit you know, if you have a grease face-- you can smear the shit from your face on to the section you want off. It works like a chram.

I don't mean to commandeer this thread, but I consider you very lucky in this situation. Beast Wars, being a Blockbuster exclusive for some time... You could have ended up with something like this..

>pic related

What's worse about THIS case in particular, is that since it's a red cartridge, I have little refuge in the idea of replacing the front of the cartridge.. Short of just buying an entirely different cartridge.

Thank god my Clayfighter sculptors cut doesn't have that shit on it, especially considering I bought it from blockbuster for like $5 when I was 13
that sticker on top is one of those re-stickable vinyl labels that barely even manages to stay on the cartridge ever, no residue or anything. I put it there since I store all my carts in a drawer

>> No.432234

>>432206

No. the gel works differently and tends to only fuck with the top label and even then it usually doesn't run. When I am removing labels on top of labels with it I have to do the top one..and then the same to the bottom. avoid putting it directly on the bottom label on the edge and it should work. give it a few hours to sink in

Impossible to remove it completely now, part of the ink has fused with the label. Nail polish remover works rather well on anything waterproof.

I didn't intend to take it off. There are only about ten N64 games that are particularly collectible when not in the box(Scuplter's Cut and Beast wars being two of them). Since Rocket copies are a dime a dozen, I'm not particularly worried about the label. I just didn't have a copy and wanted to play it.

Blame CGR for that.
