Well, what are your preferences regarding genre and platform? Are JRPGs kinda your thing, because these tend to offer the longest playtime and put at least some effort into worldbuilding.

Contra. Killing colossal disgusting ass aliens makes me feel better about myself, but with what you're describing you probably want something more like an rpg, in which case I recommend Dragon Quest

Definitely start with 3 to get your feet wet, has great party customization and is an enjoyable experience overall. If you find 3 too archaic, maybe start with 5. Has elements of monster taming and a generational system all while retaining the same DQ formula. Which can be said of most of them.

But I don't have any retro recommendations in that category at the moment.

Something you can get absorbed into for a long time.
A long JRPG with a good story and enjoyable characters.

>> No.4316483

Escapism is a doctor suggested treatment for anxiety. Taking your mind off physical and emotional symptoms allows your breathing to return to it's natural resting rhythm, alleviating the phsyical portion of anxiety. Obviously concentrating on something stops obsession of whatever is triggering an anxiety episode too.

So in short fuck the edgelords ITT OP, play some JRPGs, world building sims or loot grinders (Diablo 2 is my personal favorite).

t. anon who has suffered from panic attacks most his adult life and has seen countless doctors, psychwards and rehabs.

I find that the only kind of games I get completely lost in are really hard but engaging games.

Like Contra.

Try mastering the series, go for 1CC runs or something. That's what I would do if I really wanted to lose myself in a game. Pick something really hard, intense and fun.

The whole thing about anxiety is that you can't really face it head on. You don't worry about rational things that you can't make sense of. You worry about shit that doesn't make sense. There's not much you can do to fight that except to do as much as you can to stop thinking about it.

Why am I trying to be rational on 4chan?

There are ways to cope with anxiety, but using drugs isn't one of them. Then you just have another problem to deal with.

I have panic attacks dozens of times a day. I can't control my autonomic functions or chemical balances or whatever other shit is broken. But having suffered through enough of that, I can at least keep an objective mindset and cope with the fact that it's going to happen regardless of what I do.

>>4315670
Stay away from caffeine and other stimulants, eat right, and take regular breaks from whatever idle activities you're doing to engage in regular calisthenics.

Now, as for gaming, I find that open-world games, puzzles, sandboxes and simulators all have a sufficient level of immersion and replay value to keep my mind occupied. Basically, you want to look into anything that has a very free-form or open-ended style. Stuff like Tetris, The Sims, Sim City, Tycoon games, Elder Scrolls, roguelikes, Dwarf Fortress, historical war sims like Romance of the Three Kingdoms... I'd also pitch anything that would otherwise make a good party game, like Smash Bros. or Bomberman. You can whittle hours away just goofing off with versus CPU matches.
