Recently played through Disruptor since I've never heard of it before. It's right in the middle of the bell curve.

Doom it could never compare to but I still quite like Disruptor

As far as the topic goes I'm gonna have to say Super Variable Geo for Super Famicom. It only barely tries to approach the glory of the source material, and the fighting is just...eh.

Thankfully the second PS game at least (haven't played the first) is much better
