Gradius thread. What's your favorite?

Spinoffs are allowed too.

>cover art makes you think you're going up against massive battleships and such
>it's all alien bio-scum
>ships for enemies was done better in R-Type

To answer your question, I'll take the hidden 3D-ish Gradius found in Zone of the Enders 2.

parodius for snes is the best gradius game

Gradius Gaiden obviously, but I put Gradius IV as a very very close second.

Isn't that effectively what the final stage is? I always assumed you were flying into a huge battleship to take out its core.

Yep, basically confirmed on Gradius IV

>> No.4314431

My favorite Gradius is actually the first one (arcade or Saturn version). I'm sure that's a really unpopular opinion. Even more unpopular probably is that my second favorite is the SNES version of 3. The only ones I haven't played yet are Gaiden and 4.

Gradius I and II are the best

Nah, I like it too. Although I prefer the PC Engine version for the gameplay tweaks and extra stage, even though it has more slowdown.

if the people here haven't played the MSX games already, do so right away

it's amazing how much they squeezed out of a platform that can't even do horizontal scrolling

Whats the difficulty scaling in the first game based off of? Just total number of powerups?

>> No.4315640

>>4315639
that, and it's multiplied by the level number i believe

>> No.4315650

You'd think having 4 options and shit would make the game easier, but ive been finding its way harder. Wonder what the sweet spot between difficulty and powerups would be

>> No.4315676

>>4315650
Going for max power is usually better than trying to control the difficulty. I think Parodius Da and Gradius 2 are the only exceptions.

Gradius II on Famicom is best shooting all of time.It better then original arcade too.
Shame for Konami they not port this game to NES. Maybe this game has some special chip inside.

lmfao fuck off you penis, you use better in place of "easier", the famicom port is the easiest gradius ever made that doesn't even get harder on looping. Impressive for the hardware it may be but it's a total snooze pleb as fuck game challenge wise, even the arcade version of 2 is easy as fuck on hardest until the loop and famicom is defo not better than it either, behave yourself.

From what's revealed in both the games and the Salamander OVA, Bacterion is capable of appearing as simulated metal while still being an organic mass. I believe all of the last stage battleships are living masses.

I cannot pick one. I find them all fun. I am currently replaying Sexy Parodius on the Saturn. With the original on the NES I have a fond memory associated with the game. The more recent releases like Gaiden and 5 have some wonderful refinements and unique takes on the formula.
