So, I got the SNES Mini (Euro / PAL version) just for the sake of properly playing some good old classic games that I would otherwise never be able to afford on my living room widescreen and holy fuck, you've got to be shitting me.Why the hell are there only three aspect ratio options, and none of them include full 16:9 or at the very least stretching to fit the screen like the bloody menu does?! For fuck's sake, my regular old SNES does the latter by default, how can it be that a modern 90 dollars system that's being scalped to hell fails to have such a basic option?!

>b-but muh nostalgia, we grew up playing on 4:3 and therefore it's totally fine to have two massive black monoliths on each corner of the screen

Fuck your retarded nostalgia! I'm a 21st century millennial who grew up with widescreens and horizontal smartphones, playing inside a tiny square is a bullshit disservice to the historical endurance of these games! No one gives a fuck about slightly wider pixels either, it's pretty much imperceptible as far as gameplay goes and you have to be a complete autist to be bothered by them.

For fuck's sake, what a horrible monetary disappointment, guess I'll just keep it around to see if it can be fixed with hacks when modders crack into the console or else.

Not baiting at all here, it's genuinely disgusting that purists can't accept the option of an improved aspect ratio just because those were the limitations of the time.

4:3 stretches the games anyway. if you're going to play it in 4:3 on a 4:3 screen then you might as well play it in 16:9 on a 16:9 screen as well.

it's not improved, it's stretching the original image

Nintendo's games are meant to be played in 8:7. Other developer's games are meant to be played in 4:3.

Das it.

The SNES was designed to be played on a 4:3 TV. Its 8:7 internal resolution was stretched horizontally, giving you "long pixels".

Not all of the art made for games on the system kept this in mind. Some developers properly scaled their art, others did not, either due to preference, ignorance or laziness. Literally no picture anybody can post on the subject matters, because there is only one objective truth.

Stretching 4:3 is a crime.
