So how does the cdx compare to other genesis models? I have a model 1 genny (the good sound model) and a model 2 cd plus a 32x.

>I think this comparison is a little misleading... I've had four CDXs, and all had audio that was, aside from the PSG being too quiet, very clean. Yours sounds like the YM3438 is almost being double-clocked. Something is wrong with yours in particular, and is not a design issue. A better comparison might be a VA0 or VA1 Genesis 2, or a VA7 Genesis 1, which were distorted out of the box from design flaws.

So basically that's a broken model vs a working Genesis 1.

CDX has good sound input, not as good as the reference model 1, but better than the awful model 2s. Considering that a full Genesis + Sega CD combo would be 3 times as large, the CDX is a very solid, compact unit. If I was playing Sega CD games, I'd go for this one, since the actual Sega CD has a stupid setup (requires 2 power bricks, requires extra cables to get stereo cd audio, etc).

sure, i am using one currently with proper sound. controller port 2 is sadly broken, i'd love to fix it.
if i do end up getting a sega cd 1 i'd probably go for that. i like how it looks and it still has better audio.
