The problem with allowing 6th gen to be considered retro is that it opens a Pandora's box. What's the cutoff? Is a PS2 game released in 2008 retro, or just ones released in the early 2000s? Moreover, if a PS2 game made in 2005 is retro, how can you not allow an Xbox 360 launch title to be considered retro? It just never stops. In a perfect world, I'd say that 6th gen consoles and games made before 2005 could reasonably be considered retro, but most people will make the argument that "retro" applies to a specific time period (the 90s and below) and not just the elapsed time between the current past generations.

Long story short, you're never getting 6th gen on this board. Go post on /v/.

This way we'd have a place to have discussion about all generations of video games hopefully leading to better to on-topic discussion on all 3 boards. At least keep /vr/ the way it is, it's still one of the better boards if you actually want to discuss what the board is supposed to be about.

It's a bit paradox, you want to be able to discuss later gens here because this board is so much better than /v/ for that- but this is because it is a slow moving niche board, to STAY the way it is it has to STAY being a slow moving niche board so when opening it you will be able to discuss them but quickly won't want to, but if not you will want to but won't be able to...

I mostly agree with this idea, although I'm not sure I'd want to lump 5th gen in there. I wouldn't exactly call games that still used passwords and lacked a save feature to be "modern classics". There were enough games/consoles released during 6th gen for it to warrant its own board alone.

i personally would not care about games release dates. if a game comes out on ps2 and ps2 is considered retro - it counts as a retro game.

See, it would probably be allowed on the board given the current state of the rules, but personally I wouldn't consider such things to be retro. For me, if it wasn't made back then, it shouldn't be discussed here and now.
