"no"
6th gen will never be retro. Quit being a faggot

>> No.4295035

The problem with allowing 6th gen to be considered retro is that it opens a Pandora's box. What's the cutoff? Is a PS2 game released in 2008 retro, or just ones released in the early 2000s? Moreover, if a PS2 game made in 2005 is retro, how can you not allow an Xbox 360 launch title to be considered retro? It just never stops. In a perfect world, I'd say that 6th gen consoles and games made before 2005 could reasonably be considered retro, but most people will make the argument that "retro" applies to a specific time period (the 90s and below) and not just the elapsed time between the current past generations.

Long story short, you're never getting 6th gen on this board. Go post on /v/.

This would be fixed if the rules were changed to all software that's at least 20 years old.

There's already no cut off. A new belt scroller came out for Genesis this year but it's "retro" because tbe rules here are retarded.

I honestly think we need 3 video game boards:

>/vr/ - Retro Games
For 1st and 4th gen games.

>/vmc/ - Modern Classics
For 5th to 6th gen games

>/v/ - Video games
For general shitposting, meme of the month and if there is some room for it discussion about current gen games

This way we'd have a place to have discussion about all generations of video games hopefully leading to better to on-topic discussion on all 3 boards. At least keep /vr/ the way it is, it's still one of the better boards if you actually want to discuss what the board is supposed to be about.

>cant discuss GBA romhacks on /v/

>/vr/ wont have any of it

a sad state of affairs

To put it into perspective, Dreamcast is a 6th gen special snowflake who gets new games nowadays and all of it is allowed on /vr/. Commercial games, homebrew games, ports of multiplat 6th gen games.

opening /vr/ to 6th gen and up will destroy it.
It's a bit paradox, you want to be able to discuss later gens here because this board is so much better than /v/ for that- but this is because it is a slow moving niche board, to STAY the way it is it has to STAY being a slow moving niche board so when opening it you will be able to discuss them but quickly won't want to, but if not you will want to but won't be able to...

I mostly agree with this idea, although I'm not sure I'd want to lump 5th gen in there. I wouldn't exactly call games that still used passwords and lacked a save feature to be "modern classics". There were enough games/consoles released during 6th gen for it to warrant its own board alone.

there is a sega genesis game that came out recently. is it retro? some people still make c64 and nes games - what about those?

i personally would not care about games release dates. if a game comes out on ps2 and ps2 is considered retro - it counts as a retro game.

>there is a sega genesis game that came out recently. is it retro? some people still make c64 and nes games - what about those?
See, it would probably be allowed on the board given the current state of the rules, but personally I wouldn't consider such things to be retro. For me, if it wasn't made back then, it shouldn't be discussed here and now.

Slippery slope is fucking real.

>When /vr/ was created in March 2013 only consoles up to 4th gen were allowed
>5th gen babies kept complaining that they couldn't talk about their PS1 games
>The rules were changed
>Now Dreamcast babies complained that it should be allowed
>The rules were changed again
>Now we have daily threads about allowing 6th gen

When will this fucking madness stop? Allowing 5th gen was already a mistake.

Lol, get that grandpa shit out of here!

The sad thing is that this will eventually happen and you literally cannot talk about pre-PSX/N64 games anywhere in couple of years.
