What did you love about EGM?

>> No.4294245

Wasn't just egm, but I miss the envelope art and editor replies. As for egm, Shoe and the old gang, Seanbaby and Hsu and Chan.

I loved that for GOTY 1997, they put FF VII in the number two slot for Symphony of the Night as number one. In that time when everyone was jerking off as hard as they could over VII, that took some balls. It always made me respect them more.

EGM is so comfy

Hsu and Chan.

EGM was for scrubs. Any gamer who was worth their salt read specialized magazines like Nintendo Power and PlayStation Underground.

It was fair and balanced. They reported. I decided.

that was the best part of owning a playstation

I forget if it was EGM or Game Informer, but one of them did an import preview for X-Men vs Street Fighter on the Saturn with the 4MB RAM cart, explaining how the memory cart would allow Capcom to port all of their arcade fighters over to the Saturn but "only in Japan", that's when I knew how much Sega fucked up that gen and how royally they screwed over their user base outside of Japan.

Remember them having some really long previews and reviews compared to other magazines and it was fun watching them rip into parents sending them angry letters over them reviewing a violent game or showing an ad with slightly sexual content.

This, holy shit it kicked off my love of comics just looking for more like it.

>> No.4295763

I like the idea of having 4 or 5 different people write reviews for a game instead of just one asshole. It might not create something as in depth but hearing a mixture of tastes can really help me get a clearer understanding of whether or not something is for me.

I was thinking about starting up a project to emulate these style of magazine with modern gaming stuff. Don't know how well it would work but I enjoy writing about games.

They swiped the format from Famitsu but I agree, the only big downside is sometimes only one or two of them would actually play the game and all the other reviewers would bullshit their way through looking at gameplay or playing a few minutes.

I don't care who started it, I just wish more people did it

I just felt the reviews were balanced.

I love this review, every single point is so wrong it reads like irony.
