I'm having a really hard time finding any Sega CD games in local game stores. Whenever I do find them, they're just sports games. How do you guys go about hunting for games you want, just stick to ebay or something? I've had ZERO luck at local thrift stores for any sort of other retro games as well.

>> No.4280751

You realize the sega CD has no DRM, right? You can buy a stack of blank discs and have the entire Sega CD library burned & ready to play by TONIGHT.

OP here, sorry for not specifying. I am indeed looking for original games.

Sega stuff isn't easy to find in the wild. I haven't seen more than 3 sega CD games in a single store since the mid 2000s. Just shop on eBay, I bet the prices are fairly reasonable since they don't say "nintendo" or "saturn" on them. I don't buy retro games anymore, but I definitely prefer collecting other Sega related things because it's dirt fucking cheap since the hipsters are all about Nintendo

Well man, I want to believe OP is not a retard, I want to believe he is not dumb enough to buy burned CDs

Don't listen to this guy kids. Sega is ultra common corporate mainstream gaming. Not even worth playing while sipping on sweet not garbage PBR beer. You know what's not on Sega? Mario. Yeah, let that sink in. Better off just sticking to Nintendo or as all my friends with man buns would say, "funtendo".

you need to shut your whore mouth anon. Prices are already creeping up as is without you blabbing about how low sega prices are in comparison. No need to spread this info out. Luckily i was here for damage control but I might not be next time. Use your head.

>> No.4281063

Save yourself from the clutter and just burn them like others are saying. Sega CD cases are huge, the games are expensive (especially after Night Trap recently got everyone interested), and the discs might even start rotting on you. Really consider if you have the space for these things, clutter is serious business.

>> No.4281280

There are still a lot of good Sega CD games that go for reasonable prices on eBay and even the best and/or rarest games still have some room to go up so it's not the MOST retarded thing to spend good money on.

The fact that you can burn discs that will play in any console means that even if you want to have games sitting on your shelf looking nice you can make fairly convincing repros fairly easily if you have access to a decent color printer. It's the unique and fragile cases that are the stumbling block so if you want to go that route, order some shitty games with good cases and pray to God they don't break in the mail as they're notorious to do.

>>4280745
eBay. Or arranging trades with people on forums like NintendoAge. That's pretty much it.

You can't really expect to stunble upon lots of games for uncommon systems in the wild, there simply weren't that many people who owned them in the first place.

It's bait, but poe's law. It's kind of a funny image. I'm not ever going to be like that, but I do find myself going to towns that I would never go to otherwise, just to look for cheap shit. Granted, I would never just quit my job, buy shit I already have, or drive an hour out to some random thrift store. But the "hunt" is actually kind of fun. If I was in Cali or some where on vacation, my first priority would not be to go to a game store, but if there was one around, fuck it, I would go in. I would never drive across the country to go to Luna games, like the cuck chasers would. But even they do other shit while looking for games.

Craigslist Ebay and Amazon are your best bets. Hell, I remember it being a pain in the ass collecting for the Sega CD even when Funcoland was still in business. Thanks to the internet, it's actually easier to collect for it now than it was back in the late 90's. By 96/97 Sega CD stuff got scarce in brick and mortar stores.

>> No.4283148

Even with the ease of burning Sega CD games, how does one play import games? I was told there was still region locking in place, so presumably it would not work with a Japan or Europe region game.

There's an image region patcher. Or you can get a multi-region bios for it.

Get an X'Eye and slap a Saturn laser in it. That's what I did. Cost me $19. Didn't even have to buy a laser because for some reason the laser I pulled out of the X'Eye worked in the Saturn I swapped to test it.

Their tiny little surface mount capacitors are just waiting to leak and they take a pretty fine hand to replace. My model 1 from that pic I posted is just a shelf piece atm for that reason
I went to the trouble of replacing the fuse and it worked with glitches for about an hour then buzzed out.

>> No.4285792

To each their own. Model 2 units are much more reliable than model 1 with less moving parts. All I had to do was replace the fuse and fiddle with the laser gear a little and it's still reading CD-Rs to this day

Man, best of luck to you. I remember Sega CD stuff being horribly picked over and astronomical prices fior anything decent and that was in the early 00's.

I guess if you want originals you're into the collecting aspect of it so maybe it'll be worth it. But it's a tough road ahead.

Babbages speaks wisdom here. Disk rot is real and terrifying. My once loved and frequently played Lunar Eternal Blue is now used as a kitschy coaster so it at least has some purpose left.

Old games are awesome. Old hardware... not as much.
